Keighley is Bradford but they need any credit they can get! :-D

Nice story though.

It's definitely a story with a happy ending as I think far too many dogs which are suitable for rehoming are put to sleep but that's opening another debate up.

Don't tell anyone from Keighley that they're 'in Bradford'- it doesn't go down well.

I don't try and tell them anything as they wouldn't understand it.

Keighley may be BD21 & 20 but definitely not Bradford ... We have a Bradford Postcode BD23 and we are not Bradford either ...

Saying Keighley is Bradford is like saying Burnley is B***kburn 😲

Thankfully, it's nothing of the sort.

Keighley is part of the same borough. It's the same district of Bradford and is a town part of the city of Bradford.

I remember dating a girl from East Ardsley - she kept telling me she lived in Leeds, but it's Wakefield. We had more exciting conversations! :D

That's just the cold facts.

You won't find anyone there who thinks it's a good thing.

I used to do a gig in East Ardsley- interesting place, in a Pratchett sense.

You can't be a bit of cold facts - certainly not a good thing haha, I agree.

Some nice houses though.

We might have a Bradford post code and we might have unfortunately been taken under the Bradford Council umbrella in the 70s but we most certainly aren’t Bradfordians, makes my stomach turn even thinking about being associated with them.

I’m from just above Bingley (BD16).

If someone asks where I’m from, I’d still always say Bradford (plenty who I know would say Leeds).

One of Bradford’s biggest issues is that too many of its residents, from the surrounding areas, are staying away from the City, and actually disassociating themselves.

Issues that many a traditional Bradfordian are highlighting as a problem are only being compounded by their self enforced exile.

There’s quite a bit of development going on in Bradford at the moment and more in the pipeline - much of it seems like a treating a gaping wound with a sticking plaster, unless they address some of the deeper rooted problems.

Keighley's issue is a different one.

As alluded to, Keighley had it's own Town Council until it was removed in the 70's and placed into Bradford. Very few people from Keighley have ever accepted this and still deny they are part of Bradford some fifty years later.

Correct, I work in Saltaire, no issue telling people
I work near / in Bradford, nor do I have, or have I ever had, an issue with saying ‘I’m from Keighley which is between Bradford and Burnley’. I am just not, and never will consider myself as being, from Bradford, and I wasn’t born until the 80s but that’s how it’s always been.

2 of our LP Clarets whatsapp group are Keighley born and bred ... both retired, one in their 70's and one almost in his 80th year ... both would be mortified to be called Bradford folk 🤣 both have followed Burnley always, and Mike has been going on the Turf since the mid 50's.

I'm not sure why I know both areas relatively well & I'd say Keighleys rougher.

Go down slightly better than telling them they came from Leeds though, I’d expect.

Bradford could and should be a major UK City. Always had great potential but that disappeared many decades ago !!!!

Sounds like you are describing Blackpool and quite a few other former boom towns around the UK unfortunately.

Yes, could be describing plenty of towns…. Sorry state of affairs in Bradford though, a large and once thriving City. It’s being put to shame by the likes of Halifax and even Huddersfield.
