International matches with most Burnley links
One for rainmanman jdrobbo this....
Five current or former players on the pitch in Dublin tonight.... Cullen, Collins, O'Shea, Brady and Amdouni.
When was the last time this number or more were included in a single international?

Might have had a chance under SD. Stephen Ward, Jon Walters, Shane Duffy, Kevin Long, Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick all in Rep of Ireland squads in 2017. If they were playing against any of Sam Vokes, Chris Wood, Tom Heaton, James Tarkowski, Anders Lindegaard, Phil Bardsley, Scott Arfield, Steven Defour, JBG it was doable.

4.657845 seconds needed to calculate and process the answer. I’ll let others play along…

Nothing from back in the day either, certainly in terms of five players.
Some notable games included N.Ireland v England (World Cup winners) late in 1966......The Ireland team included Alex Elder (captain), Sammy Todd and Willie Irvine.
An Under 23 international in 1975 between England and Wales included Ray Hankin (England) with Brian Flynn and Leighton James (Wales).

In that N.Ireland v England game I thought it possible that former players Jimmy Mac and John Connelly may have been involved but that turns out not to be the case. Connelly had left Man Utd for Blackburn at the start of that season and Mac had left Stoke and was by now at Oldham.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:29 amNothing from back in the day either, certainly in terms of five players.

Re: International matches with most Burnley links
We had three NI players in one team not that long ago with Michael Duff, Martin Paterson and Steve Jones.
But I reckon all of Walters, Brady, Hendrick and Ward will have played in the same Ireland team at some point so they only needed to play against a team with a former/current Claret in it to make it to five.

Re: International matches with most Burnley links
ROI games against Wales seem to be the one.
2017 match with Hennessey and Vokes for Wales and Ward, Duffy, Hendrick, Brady and Kevin Long for ROI gives 7.

Interesting that one particular player appears in both the query and the answer.

Unfortunately only 4 Burnley connections made it to the selected 16: Chris Woods, Lee Dixon, Gordon Cowans and Paul Gascoigne. There was a tantalising teaser on the bench, but it was Gary Stevens and not Trevor Steven.

This is from the Ireland v England Euro 92 qualifier.

Steven Trevor(Glasgow Rangers). Their typo not mine.
As you say not in match day squad but 6 in an England squad will take some beating.

Here's the UEFA page for that match showing the named 16s: https://www.uefa.com/european-qualifier ... d/lineups/

You could get to 7 there…. Only the other day on the This Is Football podcast, Peter Beardsley referred to his time at Burnley, before moving to Canada.Walton wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 7:06 pmScreenshot_20240327-190136~2.jpg

......John Angus, Brian Miller, Jimmy Adamson, Ray Pointer & John Connelly......before the squad was whittled down to 22......Adamson eventually went to Chile as Assistant Manager to Walter Winterbottom.
