They aren't being "bitter", we literally chose to not be a member any more.
And frankly as someone who lives in the EU it's a right ballache.

The people saying they should be free don’t pay tax and are usually on benefits where everything is free in their worldPoulton-le-Claret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:40 pmNever understand people saying passports should be 'free'. Nothing is 'free', you have to pay for it via increased taxes instead.

Very true. If you can't afford a passport then you can't afford a holiday, so there should be no issues.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 12:41 pmThe people saying they should be free don’t pay tax and are usually on benefits where everything is free in their world

More like I’m laughing at people who can’t be bothered to ensure they’re able to travel
Plenty of people are seemingly incapable of being responsible for their own stuff and just blame everybody else instead
Cry about it all you like though, it amuses plenty of us and has done for years now

Exactly what I would expect from these people. The man who arguably delivered Brexit - Dominic Cummings - didn't even believe in it. He did it to prove it could be done by expectation manipulation.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 8:07 pmBoris Johnson and Nigel Farage applied for German dual National passports although Farage was refused his .: both should be hung for treason leading the blind

You can't hang 52% of the population because you don't agree with their decision. That's not democracy. (Even hanging the 48% who voted the other way, albeit more democratic, wouldn't be appropriate for a modern western state.)Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 8:07 pmBoris Johnson and Nigel Farage applied for German dual National passports although Farage was refused his .: both should be hung for treason leading the blind

Re: Passport problems
Even now people like you show their ignorance, UK (Johnson) decided to be a third country thus losing all right re travel to EU and how long you can stay etc , it didn’t have to be that way ,so blame Johnson and the right wing Tories , not the EU .CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:11 amYou are right. I’m still hunting furiously for a passport renewal appointment today so I can fly on Saturday, and there is a lot to slag off this government for. Such as, they have details of those of us with 10+ year old passports, so why not write to us, informing of this EU rule and urging renewals? That’s before we get to me being quoted 7 days waits for a “urgent” 1 day priority renewal. Nowadays it feels like nobody in government agencies are on your side.
But, the EU, what a shower. Crazy rule that nobody else in the world does, and all their countries (Portugal in my case) are obliged to follow it. Never been firmer in my conviction that it was right to leave, even if this stupid pointless rule has now cost me a lot of money, following on from when we were members their daft procurement rules cost me a lot of business. Can’t stand them.

Re: Passport problems
Tempting though.
Particularly with the likes of Casper above . Gosh, the losing 48% don’t half play the man not the ball all the time, it means they don’t have a good argument, then and now. Don’t know the issue with needing passports to get into a foreign country.
Not sure what the passport issue (and luckily, I’m hoping to get mine on Saturday) will have to do with Brexit though because what to do about passports was a choice after the vote. A blind man and a dog would know that having a valid passport 10.5 years old doesn’t make you in any way a risk.
No reason whatsoever why the EU couldn’t have made an exception for the UK people with 10+ years (unique in the world) and also no reason the UK didn’t insist in negotiations. Neither party comes out of it with any credit. I’m so lucky to have found an appointment to renew mine.
I’ll stick to passports not politics I think. I’ve had a chat with Ed Millibamd tonight who knocked on my door canvassing - that’s enough politics for anyone.
Re: Passport problems
Reading this thread, it seems that being in the EU provided really stupid people with a safety net if they didn't have the common sense to renew their passport on time.

More great news from Brexit on the way next week when all goods arriving from EU to our shores will have extra checks and will be subject to import tax … around 60% of all fruit and veg comes from the EU so expect chaos and food prices rising again ..at least we have our sovereignty back .. thank God for that

Stop moaning about Brexit. It's worked out ok - just ask our farmers, exporters and importers. Also, all those lovely new trade deals we've signed.

Brexit or no Brexit it's always been about the survival of the fittest. If you are strong you will survive if you are weak you will perish. Society wants to look for reasoning & excuses to blame brexit for all our ills if it wasn't brexit penny for a pinch of sh1t another reason would be found.

I certainly didn’t vote for it … and when the votes were being counted Farage and Johnson applying for dual national passports as they knew what was coming … we are a minnow on the global stage and anyone who thinks we are signing lucrative trade deals around the world is deluded .. liz truss who was prime minister for 2 minutes signed a trade deal with Japan for around 100k for Stilton cheese ! The EU was worth around 600 billion .. there is a reason NHS on its knees .. pot holes not being fixed .. people poorer .. the country is broke

Well, I’ve picked up my passport this morning and after 300 miles on the road am about to fly and land to a Clarets win. But what a farce, Home Office told me the only reason slots opened up in Durham was due to a “technical error”.
The civil service are indeed a farce, whatever your left or right viewpoints. UTC!
And yes guys, I do blame the EU though am not the OP. What a stupid rule. Brexit has nowt to do with it, anybody with half a brain gives us a grace period while we revert to the normal world practice of 10 years since issue. Spiteful gits.

Re: Passport problems
Just to be clear, the EU are continuing to apply the same 10 year rule to passports for "Third Country Nationals" that we as the UK signed up to and supported when we were EU members, and sat at the top table.
By voluntarily leaving the EU we ourselves became "Third Country Nationals", so we are now subject to the very rules that we ourselves signed up to as EU members.
Our Brexit negotiators didn't negotiate any special status for us, so it's as simple as that really.
