SD in bother

Just a one liner in todays paper reviews saying he gave Nathan Patterson a slap. He called it a nothing but if it is making the papers Patterson might have thought differently.
Anybody got updates?

He should have done it here to a few had he had we might not have been relegated.

And all explained yesterday in the press conference

For anybody who didn’t see the press conference Dyche admitted the slap and said the player did not appreciate it.

Mollycoddled babies. Imagine it being Fergie or Clough.

I saw Stan in the Burnley Tesco store this week and thought something similar

Not sure, in this instance, that mollycoddled is right.

Back in Clough’s, and earlier in Ferguson’s career, this sort of thing might have been seen as just one of those things. These days, giving someone a slap, just shouldn’t happen.

Dyche attempted to play it down at the news conference but this is the type of thing the vultures wait for with their selective outrage

Interesting comments from SD. Remembering reading about this a few weeks ago and it was brushed off as something and nothing but he’s made it sound like it was a bit more than that.

And how is ‘not liking being slapped in public’ “mollycoddled”? I’m sure you wouldn’t like your boss to do that, ‘joking’ or not.

In an age where a parent may not slap their own child, however gently, selective outrage is not required when someone slaps another person. Or, are there limits to what is deemed unacceptable because the person receiving the slap was a man?

Dyche..." I tapped him on the head like an older brother would and he didn't get the joke. It's really that simple.
Never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Nothing in it really."

I didn’t mean to go deep mik. Until I see anything different I will think of this as a playful act in a physical sport club training environment that has backfired on Dyche. I would be dismayed if it led to anything more serious.
I hope you agree that we live in an age where people are too quick to criticise while turning a blind eye to what they get up to

Sounds like training ground falling out, and that's about it. I think if there had been anything more to this, you know, like a proper slap, there would be way more info in the press and SD most likely wouldn't still be in post.

I'm not aware of Sean giving anybody a bitch slap during his tenure here he always came across as too mellow for any of that.

Maybe it wasn’t SD but his assistant and other coach who was suspended for bullying an u21 player?

Heard numerous tales

I'm not sure it's the first I've heard of it but I don't dispute there could be some truth in it. It wouldn't be the first example of people abusing their positions of power.

Dyche is an excellent manager but he really lets himself down with this stuff. He seems to make no effort to develop himself. I've always been a big fan but there's definitely a tinge of arrogance there now, I've heard him say in an interview that he would go to watch foreign teams train like some managers had done when out of work because he knows how to put on training sessions.

It came across as really narrow minded and it's not what I'd have heard from him when he first came to Burnley. Being in the promotion league and constantly receiving the negative labelling has not been good for him. There's a constant defensive barrier up now. This story will do him no favours.

He's history now, he's not done to bad for himself with his limitations he's pragmatic enough to always be in job contention for clubs flirting with relegation. He'll never get a job at a bigger club than Everton I don't think.

Yep it's his own ego holding him back though. He doesn't accept that his limitations are actually limitations. It's all a media created narrative to him. He could have been brilliant if he'd develop his style of play slightly

He's never really had his hands on a big treasure chest so perhaps his limitations would have been more expansive had he, even at Everton he's had 1 arm tied behind his back.

We don't know for sure but there was one occasion where he was given one of the biggest budgets in the division when we were relegated.
He used it to spend Lowton, Joey Barton and Andre Gray along with having Boyd and Arfield as the widemen. He could have changed the style then if he'd wanted to which suggests to me he's happy with the solid 442/4411.

Solid signings if you look at the outlay & overall output.

All a bit vague bill. Have you anything pertinent to disclose to give an idea of where you stand on this particular incident involving Dyche ?

I thought this story came out a week ago.
it was just a playful cuff that the recipient didn't appreciate. Tarks and another of the players went and told SD that the lad didn't like it, so SD went and apologised as he hadn't realised the kid had misunderstood.
At least that was the story I read.

No, it was a comment on the uses of the word rather than on this particular incident.

Because a workplace slap is the same as the above.

No one should be slapped. Ever. Unless someome is acting in self defence.Simple as that.

Anybody in their right mind would be turning down conscription in those circumstances. Christ knows what this has to do with the topic in hand, but it’s very UTC to come up with wild hypothetical situations.

My own view -FWIW - is that this story is much ado about nothing.
However, in a world where the actions detailed at the link can take place, there is probably a major criminal investigation taking place as I type…

Their worst run in 29 years. Newcastle away then Burnley at home next. Lose those two and he might be seeking alternative employment.

Let’s hope he survives Newcastle away… and doesn’t get potted before playing us. Last thing we need is “new manager bounce”
