Did anyone actually clear up the situation with him?

Pretty sure it was reported earlier in the season the number of appearances was triggered and the 15m was to start being paid this summer.

He’ll need to come good next season and get off to a flying start if we have bought him.

yeah, think about it logically - can you honestly say with a straight face that FIVE appearances would trigger a clause as was reported ? It makes zero sense

I believe the report specifically mentioned 10 apps.

I haven’t seen anything from any sources to say that it wasn’t accurate, typically it would have been rebuffed by now.

I also believe VK was asked about it at the time and refused to comment (read into that what you will)

Got to imagine we could at least get 6-7 million back if we shifted him on this summer.

Either that or send on loan and hope he has a blinder in Europe somewhere

When Chris Wood signed on loan for Forest his permanent deal was triggered after he made 3 appearances, so it can happen. I imagine it's an FFP thing. Fingers crossed it's not the case with Tresor, though.

My guess. We are obligated to buy him but we have bought ourselves out of that obligation. I don’t know how much that would cost us but I’m sure it’s substantially less than $18m.

Bit of a shame if we need to stay up and are picking players based on non football attributes like appearances.

I get that his style isn’t suited to holding a lead but in a scenario where we are chasing a game, and him being the “king of assists”, and us struggling to create clear chances (only Sheffield create fewer), it seems bizarre that he is frozen out.

Makes me wonder how well he has settled and bonded with the wider squad.

It's a strange one. I know the Belgian league isn't the strongest, but he holds the record for most assists in a season! Player of the year too, has caps for Belgium and experience in Europe. The guy obviously has ability but he hasn't shown it here at all.

Whether it's physicality, attitude, being unable to settle or whatever, I hope we're helping him sort it. He'll be a good player somewhere!

Given the severe restrictions in his opportunities to impress, i find it difficult to comprehend the majority view of writing him off so quickly to be honest.

I'm sure we all thought the same of Lyle Foster and Sander Berge after the same amount of minutes and look how they have turned out to be mainstays in our starting 11 now.

You could tell there’s was a good player in Foster last season and Berge had proved himself previously. I’ve seen nothing from Tresor that looks remotely good enough.

Normally I err towards giving a player more time to settle in, get used to our style of play/his new surroundings but Tresor has been SO poor when he's come on; lazy, slow, a totally unacceptable work rate. Last season Foster was visibly trying; making runs, having a go at goal. We've had none of this from Tresor. His first half away at Brentford was an absolute disgrace of a performance.

So all of us who didn't think the same of Foster or Berge are fine to write him off I guess. As he's been awful when he's played and clearly has no part in our plans I feel pretty comfortable doing so.

Completely agree with your point but i still feel it is harsh as he's only played 14 Premier League games and only 4 of them have been for more than 45 minutes (3 of them coming during his first 5 games at the club). In fact, 8 of them have been for only 16 minutes or less coming on as a sub during a really bad run of performances from everyone in the team.

Don’t think playing Tresor on the right wing in the first couple of months he had any minutes helped him. 21 assists last season playing from the left side and we decided he was going to be the tella replacement on the right. Another crazy decision along with starting the reason with Trafford and trying every other defender at left back before realising our actual left back with over 100 games in the premier league were the best option

Tresor was a puzzling, potentially costly signing.
In a nutshell, we were already overloaded with wide men before he came. Didn’t make any sense to me.

And you ought to be proud of that. This board's full of 'in the know' experts who don't manage that sort of success rate... Well, apart from on those occasions when they ignore what they wrote last month and say something entirely different after the event.
Of course this isn't actually a bad ploy: If in the future things change again, or indeed remain the same, they can prove their prescience by drawing everyone's attention to whichever of their previous posts best fits the latest news.

When you realise that Burnley FC have spent circa £60m on Tresor, Amdouni, Ramsey, and Trafford it’s easy to understand why this season has been such a car crash.

The best possible outcome for all involved is that the club have found a way not to sign Tresor and he’s going back in the summer. Reports earlier in the season seemed fairly confident we’d actually signed him though so I’m not holding out much hope. An absolutely appalling player.

It's because he's a Cam first, then a left winger and sometimes a very very very rare right winger, Kompany only seems to play him in his weakest position, we've not seen the best of him yet, when he gets a prolonged run on the left wing a lot of fans will be left with egg on their face's

If you look at it in all the windows we have had under kompany, majority of our better signings have all been loan signings.
Money spent on McNally, twine, churlinov and then this season Trafford, Tresor, Ramsey and Amdouni all seem a waste of money

Well we have signed some good players as well like O’Shea, Berge, Koleosho, and Odobert, but there’s no getting away from the fact that our 4 big money signings have flopped very badly and we look a much better team without any of them playing.

The money wasted is a huge concern.

Vinny has no other choice as he is painfully out of his depth at Premier League level.

Every time he plays, his value drops...best to pretend there have been other circumstances(when leaving him out) to try and hold value.

Have we ever seen him when chasing a game and when we are having a lot of possession?

I definitely saw some technically really good play from him but having him wide meant he needed to do a lot defensively which he's never going to do. It would have been nice to see him in the role Odobert had the other day, I would imagine with the space that was opening up centrally he's more likely to pick out a killer pass than Odobert is.

I just don't think you're seeing this.

Odobert knows he has to defend - Tresor apparently doesn't.

A player who is only functional when all is going well for the team isn't a player we need on the pitch.

Agree and Odobert is only 19 while Tresor is 24.

Odobert seems to me to be improving he's not the finished article but given the season we've had I think he's been remarkable. If I was PL manager with a cheque book I'd have him like a shot.

A 19 year old who is still battling after the season we've had.....!

Not sure that’s totally correct either every time I have seen him there has been an effort to defend it is just that he isn’t very good at it. Technically you can see he is a very good player just not suited to us this season and when he has played for the most part he has been out of position and getting 5-10 minutes here and there less for a couple of games. If he is with us next season I firmly believe he will be very good but he won’t be here he will go back to his parent club.

I agree but he clearly has some exceptional technical qualities. I'm surprised we've not tried to use them when we are behind in games more often. More from the Number 10 role which is the one position where you can sort of get away without defending very well

So it’s the manager’s fault then? He buys a player, or should I say gets him in on account then doesn’t know how best to play him?

Agree with your general view here but do Martinelli, Anthony, Sterling or Saka do much defensively from wide? I’d say no.

I don’t think it is the most vital attribute in attackers. Handy, yes. But our weakness has been creation. Hence we are near bottom of all tables regarding that aspect. That is why we will drop. The way VK sets up, we needed 2-3 in every game.

Anthony does tbf. He's crap going the other way though.
But we aren't Arsenal, we don't dominate possession and we don't have a world class back 4 plus Declan Rice infront of them. We cant afford to just leave our full backs completely exposed.

But if Tresor got a record 21 assists from the left wing in Belgium, then surely that is our 'creation'?

Especially since koleosho is out.

Why don't we play him there? Seems harsh to criticize the lad based on being played out of position...

He played on the left v Liverpool and did OK.
He also came on there v Luton and was absolutely dreadful but that was largely on Kompany. Its up there with one of the most stupid substitutions I've ever seen a Burnley manager make.

It was absolutely brassic that night against Luton. All the subs had the warm gear on and none will have wanted to come on for the last 10 minutes.
