Big Sam Vokes

Post by equinox » Fri Apr 05, 2024 4:13 pm

He's off to Wembley on Sunday for EFL Trophy final, I wouldn't usually give this game a second thought but I'll supporting Wycombe for obvious reasons, he doesn't start these day's but usually gets on at some stage.

Good luck Big Sam.

Yes, best of luck to Sam. Don't watch much football on tv now but I'll try and watch some of this. Served us well and a very likeable chap.

Right up there with the best headers of a ball we've had in recent years, great performance at Chelsea in our win there some seasons ago.

Good luck Sam.

Sam had his best years at Burnley. He was what he was but he made the most of his ability. He was excellent up top with Danny Ings in 2013-14.

Chelsea was a great memory.

I fine example of a player who was written off way too sopn by some of our expert fans. "The white Iwelumo"; simpletons.

Amazing in the season we had him and Ings up front. One of the best seasons watching Burnley.

“ Sam Vokes, unmarked in the penalty area, what did they expect to happen”.

Chelsea.

One of so many players we had in that period who were absolutely golden personalities as well as good footballers. Vokes, Cork, Mee, Arfield, Boyd, Ward, Heaton, Marney, Jones etc etc.

One of those strikers where goals were a bonus to their role.

He was excellent at holding up play and bringing others in. A few strikers benefited from playing alongside him and haven’t hit the same numbers since

Really lucky to have had him

Friend of a friend is Chief Exec at Wycombe. Wholly unsurprisingly, they love him just as much as we did.

One of my favourite clarets of more recent times. That goal at Aberdeen is one my favourite goals ever (whilst not the most beautiful it was just something i never expected I’d see growing up in the late 80s…. Burnley score in Europe)

Good luck to Big Sam
