Exactly 50 years ago yesterday that the Swedish supergroup won the Eurovision
song contest in Brighton with "Waterloo".
How time flies... :(

Are/were you a fan?

Went to Abba Voyage the other week straight after the West Ham match with a group of friends. Not really my thing but surprisingly really enjoyed it. Might have been the point we got and the number of drinks I had had by then starting in the Cow at 12:00. Mind you took the bouncer some persuading to let me in the pop up bar after the match and before Abba. He didn't believe I was going to Abba just thought I was a football fan looking for a post match beer!! He did let me in eventually and apologised when my wife and friends turned up with the tickets.

This isn't ABBA but an ABBA song and I'm there for this filming at the Apollo in Manchester - some 32 years ago.

If you're a masochist - you can watch the entire 1974 Eurovision Song Contest on BBC Four this evening.

Take away some cheesy lyrics, in their second language, and the music is fantastic. They even wrote some great lyrics. The Winner Takes It All and Supertrouper being up there.

I love music but I'm no musician and when it comes to singing I'm tone deaf - but I was once told by someone who did sing, and semi-pro too, that ABBA songs were so good and had such a range that they were very difficult to sing.

Raking it in with the Abba Voyage show every night in Stratford. They will sell on the technology so that we can watch the Beatles and Led Zepp perform in the future.

More Abba stuff to come when the actual ESC comes from Malmo next month.

Some timeless classics ,brilliant melodies and poignant lyrics, I don't like all their stuff but to be still relevant after 50 years shows they had something special.

Lovely, catchy pop music.

However, not in the same league as Springsteen, Bowie, Gaye, Bolan, Gabriel, Franklin, Presley, Jackson, Jagger, etc.

Or Mans Zermalow come to that if we are sticking to Swedish eurovision acts.

Mind, even the blonde one, who was prone to singing sharp as a result of her forcing herself to squark too loudly was miles better intonation-wise than Jackson on your list (assuming you were referring to Michael not Joe). Listening to some of those early tracks is like running a sharpened pizza-slicer down your backbone.
