Teams for Brighton
Just been reading in the Brighton Gazette that they have a fair few injuries for Saturday, so that's positive.
We have a fair few missing though too. Beyer, Dakil, O'Shea, Koleosho, Ramsey, Redmond.
Who will come in for O'Shea? Ekdal? He looked miles off it last time. Delcroix? Probably, but then 2 left sided CB's.
Does Muric keep his place after THAT error?
I'll guess;
Muric
Assignon Delcroix Steve Taylor
Berge Cullen
JBL Brownhill Odobert
Foster

Re: Teams for Brighton
You have two choices on is the one in the OP. Where you use Brownhill as the number 10 instead of Amdouni and Odobert breaking the lines through the centre and arriving late in the box. This is the team I would have played from the start with a midfield 3. I thought Brownhill did that ok last season and for the part of the season was probably the best player in the Championship. Healthy goal tally as well.
Albeit quite a few have now decided he is sh*te.
Muric
Assignon Delcroix Taylor
Berge Cullen
JBL Brownhill Odobert
Foster
Or you play with two wide quick wingers getting behind the defence with Foster and Fofana running the channels
Muric
Assignon Delcroix Steve Taylor
JBL Berge Cullen Odobert
Foster Fofana
VK will probably play something else and lose, and I will criticise him again and others can say he is a misunderstood progressive genius who will walk the Championship etc.
A season of being a hamster on a wheel is fun as well.....erm...well maybe not.

Berge looked our best defender second half, stick him in there. Nothing to lose have we. Brownhill comes in and please please please stop playing odabert in the 10 and foster out wide it’s useless

Wherever you played Berge he'd be our best player tbf.
Re: Teams for Brighton
We've looked better with Muric in goal so it would be harsh to drop him after one mistake. I'm question what we're getting from playing Foster and Fofana. Fofana won't be here next season and hasn't been brilliant in recent games.

Odobert Foster Larsen
Retain Esteve -he will be our best defender by Christmas. Bring Brownhill back into a 3 , but he becomes the more advanced. Odobert back on wing, and Fofana to come on early second half
No fannying about please Vinnie. We've had enough this season

Re: Teams for Brighton
I don’t mind the idea of bringing Brownhill in as the advanced midfielder - purely for his energy and pressing further up the field. He hasn’t got the technical ability to play there as an attacking threat but thickening up the midfield makes sense.
This would then allow you to try and play an attacking three further up the pitch. Odobert and Foster being two of the three.
Personally I wouldn’t like to see Assignon pull a Burnley shirt on again. Complete liability.

Re: Teams for Brighton
Ekdal for O'Shea is the obvious one and put Benson wide right instead of Foster. Leave out Fofana and play Foster as a central striker, because that's what he is. If you choose to keep Fofana, then Foster misses out. It all seems pretty straightforward to me, but I'm sure VK will choose to blindside everyone with his selection, positions and tactics and Craig Bellamy will say "yeah, great idea boss", when he should be saying "**** no!"

Re: Teams for Brighton
I wouldn't guarantee OShea will be suspended. I read we were likely to appeal, and likely to win an appeal. If he's available he plays.
I'd drop Assignon and play Vitinho. I've not been that impressed with Assignon after his debut. I'd bring in Brownhill as the advances midfielder, play Odobert off the left and play JBL from the right, with Foster the lone striker.
Muric's error on Saturday was a shocker but hopefully he's learned from it and just as Trafford wasn't hung out to dry after he made mistakes, I'm fully expecting Muric to be backed, and rightly so.

Re: Teams for Brighton
Just play players in their correct positions is all I am asking
…………….Muric
Assignon O’Shea. Esteve. Taylor
….. ….. …… Cork
Benson. Cullen. Berge. Odobert
…………. …….. Foster
Fofana has been poor last two games so unless he has a must play clause just put Lyle back where he should be.
Cork and benson have as much chance as going to the moon than playing with VK this season but I’d give them a game, can’t hurt can it?
Cork would be good in the Alexander role I feel , use his range of passing to give it to someone faster.

Re: Teams for Brighton
Since we are going down, I hope it's 11 players who we think are likely to be here next season. Pointless playing the likes of Assignon and Fofana if they are unlikely to kick all ball in the championship for us.
That being said, I don't know who will be here next season. Hopefully VK has some idea - not that he would subscribe to this view.

Think Vinny could still do a job at centre back give O’Shea a rest.
Re: Teams for Brighton
If he knows who he’s likely to have next season then they would be the ones I’d be playing.
As I have no clue who is likely to be with us or not, I’d play:
Muric
Vitinho (Toin Coss as all as bad as each other ) Esteve Taylor
Berge Cullen
Brownhill
Benson foster. JBL

Been saying that re Cork in the Alexander role for a while and agree re Benson, we`re going to need him next season so we need him to feel part of the team as I don`t believe he does at the moment and for me he is still a better attacking option than Larsen but Assignon would have to up his game.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 3:02 pmJust play players in their correct positions is all I am asking

Vitinho — Ekdal — Esteve — Taylor
JBG — Cullen — Berge — Larsen
Odobert — Foster
Brighton carry a big threat down their left with their LB Estupinan who sees a lot of the ball and combines well with one of their wingers. For that reason I’d play JBG in front of Vitinho to help defend that flank, and I’d like to see Odobert making runs into the space behind their LB from the number 10 position.
If we line up with Vitinho or Assignon supported only by an out of position Foster I think we’ll get murdered down that side.
I understand the call for Odobert to go back to LW but I think Larsen’s been okay there recently and I think Odobert is also doing okay playing more centrally.

I'm sure VK reads this on a Friday night and thinks " I'm not going to let a mere fan pre-empt me on team selection" so therefore picks a team or formation that no one has mentioned.

Re: Teams for Brighton
Gives him loads of time to pick a pass too. I thought he played steady away when he came on against spurs early season. Gives him chance to get his head up and play an easy ball. Let’s Berge get forward more instead of playing in a back fiveclaretgimmer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 5:26 pmBeen saying that re Cork in the Alexander role for a while and agree re Benson, we`re going to need him next season so we need him to feel part of the team as I don`t believe he does at the moment and for me he is still a better attacking option than Larsen but Assignon would have to up his game.
Also less pressure on Muric to do all of that job
If he plays foster on right wing again he needs his head examining.
Vitinho should be right wing sub as he’s so bloody random but that can be a good thing

Re: Teams for Brighton
I always see the wings in games as a seesaw between teams. If you have good enough attacking players and you play well enough you can peg back your opponent so they are less effective. This works great if you're up against a full back who can't defend and a winger that doesn't track back.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 5:46 pmMuric

If you opt to go defensive you can nullify their attacking threat, but it can be just as dangerous as the attacking strategy because you can get pegged back and concede anyway.
Kompany has 99% of the time opted to attack instead of defend the opposition which is probably why we have had some hidings this year vs top sides like Arsenal.
But equally toward the end with Dyche you could see it was no longer possible to nick 1-0 wins like we used too, doing the opposite so I really think taking your game to the opposition is the way to go.
As disappointing as this season has been we have at least had a go attacking teams and we've been forward thinking. I think that's good for the long term of our players, the club and how we want to play.
Focusing on the opposition is necessary more when we come up against the very best teams maybe but Brighton are no different than Chelsea and Wolves and we can come out with a win.

Re: Teams for Brighton
That's the sort of system that I thought we'd have lined up in this year - especially in the first few games with a two holding midfielders and Brownhill pressing from the front, being quick in transition and looking to counter at pace.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 12:48 pmYou have two choices on is the one in the OP. Alas we ended up actually trying to be even more expansive than we were the season before and got wasted in doing so.
As for the team for the weekend? Meh. Whoever's playing next season.

The reason VK doesn’t pick Benson is he clearly has no faith in him and that’s a slap in the face for him after last season, he will be gone at the end
at the end of the season why should he show VK any loyalty

Re: Teams for Brighton
Benson only started 14 games last season for us with another 19 coming off the bench. I think VK had made his mind up about him and Zaroury long before we started this season, deciding neither were good enough or in his plans. Both signed new contracts last summer but that had to be because they triggered the deals with the promotion.Tackler49 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 10:23 pm[quote=Superjohnnyfrancis
