Re: Agents Fees
It’s all eye-watering, but Chelsea? My word!!
Re: Agents Fees
Bournemouth, Chelsea and Leeds the big standouts for me.
Also surprised how low Wrexhams and Salfords are. I jnow they are top but i expected it to be a higher figure. Thought they'd be getting rinsed for every penny

That is roughly half a billion gone out of the game, just in the premier league. Agents………

Re: Agents Fees
With the odd exception, mainly Chelsea the money spent on agents fees is similar to the club's league position.
The top 3 spending Championship clubs are also in the top 4 along with Rotherham who are the lowest spenders cut adrift at the bottom.

Re: Agents Fees
It’s about time this was stopped. Players should pay their own agents out of their massive salaries and clubs should not be permitted to be affiliated with any of the parasites

Re: Agents Fees
Under Gradi, Crewe had a policy whereby they wouldn’t pay agents fees. Gradi refused on principle. Doesn’t look like they’ve deviated from that approach too much.

Re: Agents Fees
It wouldn't make any difference. Their agents, working in the background, would ensure their 'fees' were covered in the contract negotiations. It's shite, though. Those costs are mental.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 8:03 amIt’s about time this was stopped. Re: Agents Fees
With the sheer amount of deals we’ve done in the last 12 months that’s quite impressive to keep it that low.

Re: Agents Fees
So basically the big 5 have spent more on agents between them in the last year than every other football club in the country put together.

Re: Agents Fees
Agents who get paid by Premier League clubs should be subject to a 15% ‘tax’ that goes into a pot to be distributed between the other 72 league clubs. There’s £60 mill right there. If the up their fees to account for this at least the money is moving from the Premier into the pyramidClovius Boofus wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 8:31 amIt wouldn't make any difference. Re: Agents Fees
I understand that CT, but the practice should be outlawed IMO. But then I’m an ideologist and I know it would never happen

Clubs ripped off players for years - so they got agents to look after their interestsRick_Muller wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 11:34 amI understand that CT, but the practice should be outlawed IMO. But then I’m an ideologist and I know it would never happen

Re: Agents Fees
JJ Watt mentioned in his recent interview that in the US agents fees are limited to 3% of the deal (I think that was the figure).
Surely football as a whole could put something similar in place and ensure that it was policed to ensure compliance.

Re: Agents Fees
Technically they do. This is amounts paid by clubs to agents for services to clubs. There will be more that is paid to agents for services to players.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 8:03 amIt’s about time this was stopped. Can someone explain why this is bad? It seems like it's just clubs wilfully employing people to help them.

The agent acts on behalf of the player, not the club employing them.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 12:23 pmCan someone explain why this is bad? It seems like it's just clubs wilfully employing people to help them.
Re: Agents Fees
James Milner used the players association when he left Leeds. He said he didn't need an agent and thought they were ripping people off. He will probably have an agent now though as that is the way the game has gone.

Re: Agents Fees
That's true but why does the club pay the agents fee? Surely the player ought to pay the fee, after all the agent is working on the players behalf.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 11:58 amClubs ripped off players for years - so they got agents to look after their interests
And for the life in me I've never understood why clubs need an agent! Why doesn't the club employ a negotiator/lawyer to do the negotiating on their behalf?

Re: Agents Fees
Maybe I'm not asking the question correctly, let's try this: Wouldn't it be more cost effective for the club to have a permanent employee to handle contract negotiations, rather than hiring an outside party?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 6:47 pmAS I said, agents are often working on the club's behalf

I just think they are leeches who have destroyed many a career encouraging moves for their benefit not their " clients"

Re: Agents Fees
So, just to put this in context, Chelsea paid more in agents fees in a single year than the entire gdp of the country of Tuvalu.
