I never do scores, but I thought he was another poor ref.
He seemed to give them every free kick whilst they were getting knocked over by fresh air.

I’ve never seen a ref give so many soft free kicks to one side, and it wasn’t us. Seemed to want to slow play down to ensure he could keep up.

Shite. Quick to book Cullen but weren't for sorting any of the Brighton niggles out. The one on Esteve was a shocker. Think he's missed a pen as well. Struggled to keep up with play. Allowed to kick ball and throw tantrums constantly. Every 50/50 call went Brighton way.

He made a mistake that cost us the game
Scores in double figure seem amazingly generous despite his good intentions to let the game flow.

Well he's the first referee I've laugh at a player (Pedro), tell him he dived and oroxeed to not book him for it. Shocking isn't the term anymore because it's no shock that these guys are week in, week out allowing players to take the **** out of them. Hooper is another in the long list of refs who are woefully substandard not just at this level, but below. Struggled to keep up with play, had no control or authority to speak of, especially where Brighton and Mr Pedro were concerned, didn't apply the laws of the game correctly and wasn't remotely consistent in his decision making. Rancid.

Definitely a game of opinions
I followed match on SSN and they said he had been a good referee
I have seen Hooper on TV lots of times this season and imho he is among our better referees

There could be a 10min video of Pedro’s dives and fouls from the first half alone.
Just another awful ref but fortunately we can’t blame him for the result.

Inconsistent and allowed Brighton players to con him.
Fitness questionable.
Foul count of 18-8 is unusual, probably showing the extent to which he was conned.

We've had a lot worse this season but that doesn't mean he wasn't poor. He couldn't wait to reward their falling over whenever we went near them. At one point I thought he was getting wise to it as he waved their shouts away but that didn't last long. How on earth Pedro didn't get booked for getting frustrated and kicking out in front of their dugout beggared belief. The tackle on Esteve was also quite sly and naughty. Neither challenge even warranted a talking to apparently.
I'll excuse him for the penalty shout as it didn't look clear enough to me at the time..however looking back on the replay there is certainly a good claim. Where was VAR?
Yet another sub standard refereeing performance.

I thought he was awful to be honest. Fell for every Brighton fall over to be a foul. Brighton are the worst for what the PL has come. I knocked my seat and 3 of their players fell over.

Not good at all. God knows what some were watching to award scores like they have.
Who was the Brighton player who had a row with the ref late on, and then sarcastically applauded him as he ran off? Surely that’s a second yellow?

I’m staggered by some of the high ratings - quick to book Cullen, correctly, but then let a catalogue of booking offences go. The tackle on Esteve on half time was a shocker, didn’t even have a word. Pedro kicking through Assignon in frustration - no booking. The lad booting the ball into the stand when a corner already given - a booking. Pedro kicking ball away first half - a booking. I’m all for letting the game flow but you can’t decide you’re going to book one player for an offence then let all the other go. That’s b””l””s.

Surprised at the consistency ratings given he gave a number of other free kicks where the player caught the man just before ball, including the one for Brighton from which Muric made a decent save just before half time, and yet didn't give a penalty when Estupinian did exactly that to Odobert.

Even allowing for c&b tinted glasses, this guy clearly let them 'boss the game'. How that Pedro chap got away with what he did, only the ref can answer that.
Just so annoying to see cheating being allowed and not dealt with.
And having just seen the Odobert penalty again on motd this morning it's a clear a penalty as you'll see. What exactly is the point of VAR?
I almost give up.

A now typical PL refereeing performance. Dives now always get a free kick & never a booking, whereas nasty fouls aren’t pulled up.
Then we have the non-penalty when the defender got the ball after colliding with the attacker. The only consistency is the inconsistency.

This is one of those where those who saw it live and are allowed to vote ‘could’ conclude that he made good decisions, but on checking it on MOTD afterwards would have to change their minds. Personally, I was happy with what I concluded live.
The penalty was clear and obvious. The player missed the ball with his front leg, then accidentally took it with his rear leg, AFTER barging into Odobert. It was a clear penalty and probably stopped us winning the game. There were a few other issues too, like not booking their players twice when walloping the ball away to time waste. He stopped the game for a clear leg injury.

Looking at the replay of the penalty, you could be charitable and say his view might have been obscured. That's what VAR's allegedly for, of course...
As for the rest of the game there's a fine line between 'letting the game flow' and 'bottling out of making decisions' and he spent 90+ minutes doing the latter. Same as every other referee this season; weak.
Leave it to the current cohort of referees and it won't be long before decision-making is taken off the on-field referee entirely and they're just kept-on to signal the decisions being fed into their ears.

Re the non penalty, it looked like one in real time and certainly looked like one after on the replay.
This type of incident is one where the benefits of VAR should be brought into play. As Enola says the ref could be blind sided as to whether Estupinan played the ball or not, so why not give the penalty and then let VAR look at it with their multiple TV angles. The same principle should have been applied to the similar incident involving Vitinho vs Brentford
This is also where there is confusion with respect to the rules, my understanding is that EVEN if the defender plays the ball, if he takes his opponent out with the follow through, it's a foul, as in the incident involving Pope and Bamford 2/3 years ago.
Plainly Estupinan cleaned out Odebert as he was about to shoot, therefore it's a penalty.

It is fitness and positioning, not just fitness.
For example, as Enola he was obscured for the penalty, but needed to be in a good position to see it. Good refs see the line of the run and position themselves accordingly.
A 15 that I gave it felt right to me.

Who cares Dave he was that bad, only Muric was worse. The ref made it all about him.
As with Kompany's fine/ban and rightly so btw, its their arrogant response in their statement, never state where the money is going and not once acknowledging that the refereeing was so poor.
We are so poor this season but having to watch these refs this season has been shocking too. A good ref is a ref you don't notice or talk about.

Fair play but if relegated you will see poorer referees.
I have watched lots of games this season in all 4 divisions and the standard is very poor and do t have VAR to help in offsides
Goals are given with scorers sometimes 2 yards offside

He never actually said it should have been a pen. He did say that Estupiñán got lucky but then said it’s a tough call because whichever way you go, people are going to say it’s the other way. Stephen Warnock didn’t think it was a pen but Sue Smith thought it was.
