I thought that had gone quiet.
Did any ST holders in the cricketfield stand get told it would be standing next season in your renewal email?

It's the top third of seats across the cricketfield stand. For those that have sat in there it's from row AA backwards.
Re: Safe standing at the Turf
Ah. Does this mean they will try to make anyone lower than that sit down?ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 10:28 pmIt's the top third of seats across the cricketfield stand. For those that have sat in there it's from row AA backwards.
Good luck if so. I don't imagine the fans in there to be the most agreeable bunch.

Oh so not like a full section?
Full standing stand in the cricket field end would be epic, imo.

Is there any ever minutes from these meetings so us mere mortals might have a clue as to what is going on at the club?

It does seem strange for it to be in place by the Newcastle game.
Construction and installation time, existing ticket holders not consulted.
Surely it's got to be next season, if at all.
We will see soon enough.

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
Brilliant..... I am a CFS season ticket holder.... have been since we went back in there.... Instead of plans to replace the whole end (which is absolutely needed) we are spending money on safestanding........ When every one in there stands already. Madness.
Emotional meeting? Intriguing...... Of course it's meant to sound that way, "I'm on the FAB, and something is happening, but I can't say anything, will post something on twitter instead"

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
So they already stand in there, you sit in there, but you think it’s “madness” to make it safer for everyone by using proper safe standing gear. Only in Burnley could someone turn a positive into a negative.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 11:43 pmBrilliant..... Re: Safe standing at the Turf
Sounds as though this won't be the only area to go to safe standing. Longer term everyone that wants to stand could be able to stand and everyone that wants to sit should be able to sit without their view being obstructed by standing fans. Imagine there'll be a few teething problems in the meantime but hard to argue with that plan.

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
Presumably Ian, there is evidence of the current standing arrangements in the CFS being unsafe?
The CFS in it’s entirety is inherently unsafe by today’s standards and requirements. 600 people moving in and out of the outside seating area through 1 access and egress point is shockingly bad, as is the lack of space and safe routes through the concourse. I have of course emailed the clubs safety officer with my concerns, which failed to even generate a response….
Safe standing is just a buzz phrase anyway. Standing isn’t dangerous, never has been. Greed has always been at the centre of any safety issues - namely selling more tickets than there was space available. There won’t be anymore supporters in the CFS without seats than there is now with seating. The limiting of numbers is what makes it safer than the “free for all” it used to be.

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
I agree about the CFS safety point and think that stand has to be a priority for redevelopment and more important than big money signings we’ve not seen on the green stuff, in my opinion. The difference in the clubs mind being that we can’t sell a stand if we go down, presumably. I’ve said this before but I’d love to see this joined to the Longside with a tunnel in the corner.bobinho wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 9:04 amPresumably Ian, there is evidence of the current standing arrangements in the CFS being unsafe?

I disagree on your point about safe standing. Back in the old days there were plenty of terraces that weren’t necessarily over capacity, that were unsafe or caused me to be worried or get injured in certain places where overcrowding had occurred. Stands could be quite sparsely populated in some parts and crowded in others. In this system everyone has an allocated space.
It’s not really different with standing in seated areas now. Last year at Sheffield United a lad was pushed/jumped two rows forward and hurt my youngest when we scored a goal, for example. Now that can’t happen as you have a rail in front of you.

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
I agree that it is unfair on those do not want or can not stand for long periods have to because of others. Hopefully safe standing takes a strides towards eradicating that.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 8:39 amSounds as though this won't be the only area to go to safe standing. Re: Safe standing at the Turf
I do think there is a difference, Bobinho. If you stand up - which people do at away matches, consistently (and caused me to stop going!) The space is limited, to stand and the seat, in front, becomes a trip hazard, which did not exist on the old terraces. The rail provision adds to the safety and therefore 'safe standing' is an improvement.bobinho wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 9:04 amPresumably Ian, there is evidence of the current standing arrangements in the CFS being unsafe?

The redevelopment need for the Cricket field stand is a separate issue, although the points you make are valid.

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
I think the old boy who sits a few seats down from me, who got quite badly hurt in the CFS stand this season, would agree that the current standing arrangements are not safe. When we scored a goal, the fans behind him fell onto his back and he smashed his knees into the wooden seat in front.
I'm all for standing every game but needs to be safer

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
At my age with a dodgy knee I'd only consider safe standing if I developed piles.

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
Personally I cannot stand for a full game and feel the issue in allowing standing in seats causes chaos .The obvious solution in away games is to move all standers to the back 10 rows and ask on entry if you wish to remain seating and so get seated at the front 10 rows.
I ask the ticket office to seat us near the front and got row y!

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
Will the width of the new plastic seats installed be narrower than the current wooden ones, thus a slight increase in capacity?

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
There was a SAG meeting yesterday - it's been on the agenda for some time and is going to be in the cricket field stand.
Amazing really, other clubs announce they are doing it, other clubs consult with fans, we just do it.
It's going to be the back few rows.

I'm very pro-safe standing and this is a good start. I feel compelled to say that the idea of an emotional meeting about safe seating at the back of the Cricket Field Stand probably confirms the thoughts every cynic has about the people who are on the FAB.

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
That’s correct. On the stadium tour a while back I was told capacity increased by 250 when the away end was changed to plastic. Given it only looks about a third of the stand, you might get 50 additional seats maybe?

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
I happen to know details about the topic brought up which led to an emotional response. It was not an emotional response to a discussion around safe standing, but a completely separate topic which should be taken very seriously. I would defend that person and anyone else to the hilt for an emotional response to what was discussed. It's not my place to disclose what it was a response to but as you felt compelled to comment, I feel compelled to defend that person.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:32 amI'm very pro-safe standing and this is a good start. It was initially due to go in during the last international break but was delayed for reasons unknown. It is intended that it will eventually also move into the next blocks below.

I’ve moved out of the CfS a few years ago due to the bottlenecking issue under the concourse. It isn’t fit for purpose. Much more important than the safe standing

Seems odd they don’t just convert the whole stand ? It’s always standing in there anyway ? As for an “ emotional “ meeting about a few rows of safe standing ?? I know the FAB are hardly alpha male chest thumping boneheads but ffs !

Re: Safe standing at the Turf
Gotta say the safe standing at Spurs was excellent . While that’s state of the art stadia it certainly “ works “ the only negative is that it’s actually so safe you’re a bit spread out capacity wise .
