We need a new garden shed and know nowt about it. Anyone got any advice? Where to get them from, wood or plastic, who would do delivery and erection, how long do they last, anything else I need to know? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Google garden shed providers/manufacturers, or try Ed’s sheds in Nelson. My advice, buy a wooden one. When it arrives it will be in kit form (I.e. two sides, a front with door, a back, a roof and a floor)
Treat every side of every item at least twice with a reputable wood preserver/finish before putting it together.
When you put the base down, make sure it’s perfectly level or you’ll end up with a parallelogram when it’s finished. The roof will have enough felt for one covering - buy some more and put two on.

There's also Greenview Sheds in Padiham.
Supposed to be pretty good, but don't think they're
the cheapest.

Get a few quotes first.

There's a place that advertises at the roadside at Shuttleworth Mead.
Don't know what they are like though, worth a trip out maybe.

Have a look at Screwfix online too to see what's available and what you get for your money.

Avoid buying a cheap one, I erected one a few months ago as a favour for a neighbour who'd bought it. Flimsy materials,bad finish light as a feather didn't even provide bolts to hold it together in the corners just some crap screws. Buy cheap buy twice.

I’ve no idea why as I’ve never had or lived in a house with a garden shed .

Although it’s more expense I wouldn’t use the roofing felt sheds normally come with as it always wears out pretty quickly and instead invest in a rubberised sheet covering , easy put on and will last decades

I bought one of these 10 years a go and its fantastic. Never leaked, never had mice in it and it survives gale force winds without a problem. My neighbour laughed when i put it up... he wasnt laughing a year later when his wooden roof blew off in the gales and mine stood firm

I wash it once a year with the jet wash and thats it for maintenance.

You started it with your call for more protection!

It’s all about the base ….. Essential that it’s level and nowadays you can get interlocking plastic tiles which you fit together then fill with pea-gravel. A decent 6x4 foot wooden shed will set you back between £400 and £500.

Shed place on Red Lees rd just after the left turn to Hurstwood/Worsthorne.

work great ltd , mill hill blackburn ......as good as anyone around and great quality , they will make it to whatever size you need ,and put windows and doors where you want them .
weve just had a bespoke one from them in lytham were we moved to ,and this is the third one they have done for us , they are a small family business the only thing against them is the town they are in !!!!

Thanks for all the advice (apart perhaps from the one about a Penthouse suite in Mayfair, which I really don't understand ). I am inclined towards plastic because it requires zero maintenance and should last for a few years at least. I'll think about Ed's Sheds but if they want painting and levelling and that sort of thing, I'm inclined to go for cheap and tacky. We have a wood one at the moment, or rather we have about 90% of it. It has extensive ventilation and a bit of a lean. (It is about 30 years old.) Anyone want to buy it?

Sorry to hijack this thread but this is shed related. Every winter my shed gets really damp, so much so that everything is wet in there. I don’t think it’s leaking though. Could it just be extreme condensation? I added 4 Louvre air vents and replaced the felt with a premium rubber one. All the edges are sealed with riffing sealant. The floor is really bad - it gets mushrooms growing on it. It,s 8x10 and not cheap to replace especially if the same thing happens. The base is a treated wooden frame filled with shingle

Any ideas?
