Jacob Brunn Larsen

For the statos on here has JBL completed a full 90+ minutes for us. Seems he either comes on as a sub or is subbed and when subbed it is not always for a better performer IMO.

According to this site, 86 minutes against Brighton is the most he's done

You would do well to complete 90 minutes in this side out wide.
With 5 subs and 9 wingers to play.

Maybe it's in his contract, where as Trafford's says he must play, Brun Larsen's might stipulate that he must either be sub or be subbed, perhaps?

The commentator on Saturday said he's our leading goal scorer now but hasn't goat an assist.

The role of a winger has certainly changed.

For a winger that's certainly nothing to bleat about.

I'd argue we play "wide forwards" more than wingers, but we can be here all day if we go down that route

I don’t think it’s anything as complicated as that. He’s always had injury problems I would think it’s more a case of trying to protect him than anything else.

Apart from Gudmundsson, whose record is excellent, and Foster, our assist record is terrible from forward minded players.

Koleosho / Odobert get an assist 1 game in 10.
Brunn Larsen never.
Berge 1 game in 30.
Amdouni 1 game in 20.

Cullen gets more than any of these, from holding midfield. It really is a big reason we are where we are.

Berge is really frustrating in that he seems to get himself into really good positions then makes the wrong (often negative) choice. I just wish he'd take the chance because I've got every faith he'd end up bagging himself a few.

In the interview on Match of the Day he complained about pre match back ache and of hardly being able to breathe. Is he a hypochondriac?

Agree.

What I find most surprising, given that we have 9 goals against Sheffield but only 28 against everyone else, is that our players with many career assists aren’t featuring most often. Gudmundsson is in the top 10 outside the big 6 for “chances created per minutes played” which includes corners, Redmond and Tresor have 50+ club assists in their career (the latter in few seasons), and Benson has a good few as well. Whereas Amdouni has only 11 career assists.

Personally there has always been a strong argument for Foster / Amdouni up front to put the goals in, Redmond / Tresor behind to create, Odobert / Koleosho wide left to cause chaos and Gudmundsson wide right to provide set pieces with JBL a later sub for him. Leave defensive attributes aside for a minute, I reckon that team would have 15 more goals. Baffling that we persisted with what didn’t work for so long.

Anyway, JBL has done well, the subject of this thread, and we appear to have turned a corner belatedly, but I would have been going with the above from August.

Not sure what he'd do the The Championship.

Five goals in 986 minutes looks good but seem to be a little misleading. He'll be back in Germany soon.

I'm not surprised that Larsen's record for us shows 5 goals but 0 assists.

Recently we've been using our wide players in a similar way to Brighton in that we attempt to circulate the ball around the middle of the pitch, with the centre forward dropping deep to help with this, and then we look to release a wide player in behind making an out-to-in run.

This is why we've seen Odobert's position changed to a more central role, and indeed why we've seen Foster being trialled in a wide right role.

Even Taylor from full back manages an assist per season in the PL. 7 in 6 seasons now, go Charlie, some call him dross.

I'm not sure the wide players should be thought of as wingers (chance providers), more as finishers.
Assignon and Taylor are more likely to provide crosses.

Brunn Larsen has comfortably been one of our better players this season, it’s a shame he has clearly got fitness issues, early in the season he always looked good off the bench and then scored the worldy against Luton

Didn’t we have an obligation to buy Larsen in the summer for around £3m?

Not sure whether it’s an option or obligation. He’ll only have a year left on his contract in Germany. He signed a 12 month extension to enable us to take him on loan instead of a permanent deal. Whether that was our choice in light of his injury problems or his choice in wanting a get-out should we be relegated we don’t know.

He’s worth £3m all day long.

He is like a younger JBG.

solid, hard working, technical, eye for goal...injury prone!

Really like him, great player to have in the squad.
