Will Nuno be tempted to play any injured regulars?

Post by Darnhill Claret » Thu May 02, 2024 1:18 pm

Neco Williams, Willy Boly and Murillo all went off injured against City. Neco Williams looked like a hamstring tweak or pull. Murillo looked like a twisted ankle or knee and Boly, I'm not sure.
Will Nuno be tempted to start any of them or will he go for a fully fit starting 11 and bench?

His decision could be crucial.

I can't see them risking players for the last few games. They will hopefully assume that fringe players should be good enough to beat Sheff U.

Then Sheff Utd kick their cheating arses!

I'm hoping that if he does risk one or more that it backfires, and if he doesn't, that Sheff U reap the benefit of 3 key players missing.

Hopefully Sheffield United's Sunday Leaguers will crock one or two more of them.

Not sure injured players playing through the pain barrier is a thing anymore.

Vydra played 90 minutes against Watford for us with a torn cruciate ligament not long ago.

Players definitely do play through the pain barrier - but if you've got a pulled hamstring it doesn't matter how hard you are, you can't physically run so you aren't much use.

Apparently Willy Boly and Murillo both back in training and in contention for selection at the weekend.

I'm sure Wilder will 'encourage' his players to test the physical fitness of their opponents.
If they play it has to be a risk, and probably a greater risk, to start them on the bench.

Speaking to a Wednesday supporting mate at work yesterday and hadn't realised there was a particular hatred by the Sheff clubs for Forest - it makes sense geographically i suppose.

I just hope it means there's a bit more fire in Utd's belly than would normally be expected of a club already relegated

A lot the Sheffield United rivalry stems from the playoff semi-final with Forest a couple of years back - kicked off a bit between the players and Billy Sharp was attacked by a Forest fan at the end after a pitch invasion.

Think there's a miner's strike element to it as well.

Correct. The Notts miners carried on working through the strikes.
