Could be 2 championship promotions on the trot for our Barnsey . Hopefully Norwich give him a chance to play in the prem .

Not been in great form Naarch, need to pick it up in the play-offs.

Good that he has helped them into the play-offs.

I love Ashley Barnes, always will but I would not expect Norwich to take Ash up with them.

Got a very good mate who’s a season ticket holder at Norwich. He said although the stats he shows doesn’t make for a top championship striker they seem a better team with him in the 11. When he’s injured they don’t win. He also helps out the other strikers with selfless work.
Reminds me of his time here. Maybe he was too senior for VK and his coaching staff and they didn’t like his influence. That said the run from the home game against bastads to the end of the season was no fluke.

Didn't he sign a 2 year deal?

Not sure, but assuming he did I’d still expect him to move on with a nominal fee, hopefully elsewhere in the Championship.

Nice to see after the Norwich fans initial negativity to the signing of Ashley Barnes , he seems have changed their opinion and won them over.
Just as appeared the case with Ben Mee at Brentford also.

They should offer a free, if they believe they need a replacement. He has earned that. However, his experience may well help, in such a situation. As he did with Zaroury and Benson.

Do not disagree, and entirely possible… I’m pretty sure VK did not realise his true value until it was too late. He almost admitted as much on the Mission to Burnley programmes.

Or THB at Southampton.

Decent argument that had we kept Barnesy simply for his game management ability we'd have stayed up. Easy to imagine us closing out the two games against West Ham and the Luton game, for a start with him coming on for a 10 minute cameo and that's 7 points right there.
And if Norwich were to get promoted and deem him surplus to requirements next season, I'd have him back as a squad man.

Mr Kompany needs to admit a lot more!

Not necessarily in his make up; getting things wrong is part of life and the learning curve: he takes lessons and experience (as does the club) there is no need to apologise when valuable lessons are being learned; everyone benefits in the long term. His role is leader, to keep apologising suggests weakness and insecurity. Not saying he could not be more open, just I can understand his reticence to wring his hands in public, frustrating as it is.

Why not? Better than some of those wage-stealing invertebrates yesterday.
Certainly wouldn't like to see him in another shirt on the Turf.

Reckon he could have made a difference on and off the field this year
Would have made a million times more difference than the likes of Jay Rod as a sub but also I suspect if things still had gone the way they have, he'd have been starting the last 10 games

He would be nowhere near this side which is why he was quite rightly released.

Only Gudmundsson is in the thinking, as he is so good. He misses out as younge players are always preferred to his older, wiser, class, as first option.
Similarly Rodriguez barely gets a look in but actually knows where the goal is located.

Calf injury - big doubt for the playoffs

Coming 6th in that Championship means you're bang average, which is exactly what Barnes is.

If I were to list Burnley's 'bang average' players over the last decade or so, Ash Barnes would be nowhere near that list. A true legend, Ash. Magnificent servant.

Good for him if so. if they don’t make it through the playoffs it would make sense for them to keep him, for the same reason I would have kept him around the Turf given the option… he was clearly a massive part of the team bonding last season.

3 goals in 2023 and 2024 would suggest otherwise.
This season JBG under used.
From the documentary it felt like VK didn't like Barnes influence in the dressing room. My Blackburn supporting colleague was shocked that we'd let him go on a free in the summer, and he hates Barnes. Considering the other options we have had up front this season and total lack of PL experience in the squad , Barnes was worth another season. With a fit Barnes in the team we would not have rolled over and had our belly tickled so many times. I think back to the Brentford home game when we were hanging on against 10, odobert gets the ball in time added on, drives forward and crosses to their keeper. Barnes would have won a couple of free kicks in the corner and we comfortably see out the game.

Average professional footballers don't make as many appearances in the Premier League as Barnes did.
I'm sure that anyone would tell you that.
