embarrassing- i was actually laughing along with all the other fans, From what i could see he dived when he was through and could have crossed the ball into the area, he then feigned an injury for ages and threw a hissy fit, Berge went to get him up and he had another breakdown and finally got up and protested to the Burnley fans and the ref, ref by this stage had seen enough and booked him- complete cock womble.

He then decided not to come over to the fans at the end. He’s a good player but we don’t need that sort of stuff in our club..

I’m fairly sure he was clipped. He should be embarrassed though with his antics afterwards.

My first instinct was fury that he dived hoping for a penalty, then hoped I’d just missed the contact when he stayed down… then thought want a knob when he reacted the way he did. He may have got more sympathy had he not gone down like he’d been shot every time he felt contact.

I watched on tv and they said he was clipped and should have had a penalty. I hate all that feigning injury though.

Constantly overcompensating for his lack of ability by trying to show everyone how much he really cares.

Not for me. Good riddance.

I think 60% of his game is top class but the other 40% he lacks is literally league 1

All players stay down now in order to draw the attention of the ref and VAR.

Yes he should have got up earlier but he genuinely felt it was a pen and couldn’t believe it wasn’t reviewed.

It could have been an absolutely vital decision and may have us back level with a few minutes to go.

Ref gave it, VAR sent him to look at it again and he still gave it. I didn't quite know what was going on after the incident because the camera was constantly on Assignon. Was it checked ?

MoTD didn’t show the full incident but showed him kicking his own leg. I think he was clipped before that though, I was level with it in the ground and I thought he was clipped.

Only seen the MOTD footage but if that's all that happened he needs binning out of the club immediately, complete disgrace.

VK thought it was a pen too and spent a long time hugging Assignon afterwards

Looked like he tripped himself up to me though

The replay I had this afternoon was from him tripping himself. Not sure whether he was embarrassed or clipped but he thought he was. He made no friends with his histrionics.

If it was the first time he'd dived then he probably would have got the benefit of the doubt from the fans.

He's hurled himself to the floor for no reason a fair number of times though, it didn't help the team at all today

Am I missing something here? There wasn’t an opposition player within a few yards of him from the coverage I’ve seen. Embarrassing reaction from Assignon and rightly called out by O’Shea. It’s amusing reading posts from people saying they’re looking forward to getting out of this division due to the cheating when our own players are just as complicit.

I doubt we’ll see him after next week, which is a shame because he’s a good player but a cheat.

Out of interest on MOTD I saw Almiron do an outrageous dive and even Darren England spotted it and booked him. Almiron then spent a minute on the floor waving his arms at the ref with that imploring lost puppy expression he has, still trying to con him.

So should he be kicked out of Newcastle? Was worse than Assignon because he completely made it up, not sure Assignon knew what happened.

What do you mean Assignon was clipped? He wasn’t touched. Whether or not he knew what happened, he feigned injury and wasted time (which wasn’t added on) when we were looking to retain our place in the PL. I’m not sure why Almiron also being a cheat changes this.

I disagree, I have often called it out when one of ours has fallen over. I just know what I saw from the stand, it did appear to me that Assignon’s foot was clipped before he then kicked his own leg. Of course I was there in line with it in the stand and saw it real time. If I see the full incident again in slow mo and it doesn’t show a clip from the Spurs player I’ll admit I was wrong. Until I see that though, I’ll maintain what I saw is how it happened IMO.

The commentators descr4ibed it numerous times and were astonished it wasn't a penalty. He didn't just sprint and make his own leg hit the other and fall over, like is being made out here.

Whether or not he was clipped is kind of irrelevant to the main thing he's being criticised for. He thought he was fouled - fair enough, he might or might not have been, but the ref didn't give it. Benefit of the doubt, he then goes in for some histrionics with the aim of getting a VAR review. Again, fair enough but again, he didn't get a review.

He then though spends 2 more minutes rolling around and making a song and dance when we've got 5 minutes left to actually try and NOT GET RELEGATED. But he wastes that time with his own petulance.

Obviously, it probably made no difference. We weren't going to mount a miracle comeback. But it's the appalling selfish attitude it demonstrated. TBH the whole second half gave the impression of none of them really being that bothered about relegation.
