Fofana discusses rift with Kompany

Fofana has suggested his drop in form after a bright start was because he and Kompany were not on the some wavelength

Ahh so the reason he missed an almost open goal from about 4 yard is because he wasn't having smoke blown up his arse.
I guess the message is clear to all other clubs, if I am going to join you for a loan period and I am not the managers favourite I will put less effort in.

goes to show how inconsistent Forfana as been and when told he blames Vincent, let's see what he does back at Chelsea, i suggest another loan somewhere but not here..

I've just read this myself. Here is a link to what he said:

He should be grateful that the manager decided to shift our CF onto the wing to accommodate him as for me, he should have been on the bench.

He was suspended by Union Berlin in October for a minor tiff with his coach.
Not doing much for his reputation, particularly if Chelsea don’t want to keep him and they need to offload him.
You do wonder who advises some of these young players.

Having said that, I’ve just read the link and he doesn’t say much at all unless there are additional lines somewhere else.

Cheers for the link, the bit below probably says more about him, unless of course it was their manager to blame as well.
Fofana’s Burnley spell went a bit better than his time at Union Berlin in the first half of the season (2 goals, 1 assist, 1 handshake snub with the head coach in 17 appearances), but overall, it’s not been an impressive season from the young striker.

He’s a strange player, clearly has a bit of talent and probably will play the majority of his career at a high level but his mentality just doesn’t seem right.
I always got the impression he just didn’t want to be here.

Is it a rift? The manger making decisions could mean anything. Things fizzled out for him here. The manager stopped playing him. Is there much more to it than that? Unless I'm missing something.

Hypothetically if there was a rift with a player speaking up about decisions being made I wonder how it would go down in the camp. Kompany himself has said he would have been his own worse nightmare for a manager during his own paying career for being a loud mouth. Maybe he doesn't mind players questioning things. As long as they respect his position in having the final say it's not necessarily a bad thing.

He's an absolute chopper as most of us could see from his first interview. I really wish we'd do some more due diligence on the type of characters we sign. (He is also abysmal at football)

No stats at hand but I'd take a guess that he has the best goal contributions per 90 out of any of our strikers this season. Whilst also doing the defensive side of the game better on top of that and being technically better.
The one thing he doesn't have his pace but that doesn't mean he can't be useful. Unfortunately Kompany disagrees.

That's a very low bar. Nobody can contribute anything when they are sat down. Jay's on a good number & he knows it he wouldn't get better elsewhere.

20/21 1 goal in 31 apps
21/22 2 goals in 29 apps
This season 2 goals in 20 apps
Rodriguez goal return in the PL, I’d guess half of that measly goal return is penalties too. Awful

Jay Rod has had some stick this season for some bizarre reason imo. Given the stock of strikers (Foster/Fofana) we have at our disposal and those returning to the Club (Obafemi), he should have had more game time this season, and I'd be giving him anoher year - though I've no doubts that isn't going to happen.
Foster has clear problems, Fofana is like a dog with a balloon, and Obafemi doesn't look anywhere near good enough. Assuming Weghorst isn't returning, presumably next year we are going to add Mellon to the list of options. Jay may not have the legs he had but he's certainly the most intelligent striker on the books by the proverbial country mile.

You got off to a flyer with a brace against Fulham on your home debut. But it was a flash in the pan, a false dawn. You've only scored two more. Why?

Neither of those has he been first choice so it's pretty irrelevant. He's an intelligent footballer not an out and out goalscorer but you seem to have glossed over how many goals he got last season when fit.
I always find the x goals in x appearances stat amusing when some of the appearances are 5 minutes but they are being compared like for like against players who have been playing 90 minutes

Jay is a good professional and whilst not starting games you don’t hear him moaning, privately he’ll be gutted he’s not playing.
I’d keep him for another season, I think his contribution in the Championship could be invaluable to us, especially with his experience, very much like Ashley Barnes was.

Great post. I presume Jay's going but it's an absolutely crazy decision for me.
A Burnley fan that hit over 10 goals last time in the Champ and has a really solid character that the young players can look up to. Why on earth would we lose all that on a free just because he can't run very fast. Madness

He did plenty of moaning when Dyche was manager.
He was very good at the start of last season, but it’s right that he’s going to move on.

I think the issue was VK would have wanted to play both Foster & Forfana together, but imo they are too similar players in style, so in order to do that, pushed Foster out to the wing
We all saw that wasn’t working, so he had to drop one of them, and that was Fofana and he obviously doesn’t like that decision

Your Rodriguez obsession is weird, are you related to him? He’s no where near PL level, you will see in the summer when he goes to a crap team.

Too many primadonnas signed this season, which is on Vincent. They are legends in their own minds and it is far from the solid characters Dyche used to sign. The problem is when they bring that sulk onto the pitch, but as alluded to in some of the big media write ups, cliques behind the scenes may be an issue too,
The skill of the club in assessing personality is vital.
It would be lazy to blame it on nationalities though there is a factor there to a degree. I had previously thought that Kompany’s reputation would have these players idolising him, but they seem too arrogant for that.

Fofana is a poor mans Ade Akinbiyi. The West Ham goal was the exception to the rule. Away from that he scrambled a few goals two over the line but never actually looked in control of anything he did with the ball at all. He's one of those who will just disappear from the game after a couple more loan spells.

Unbelievable. I for one hope he gets a contract extension we need his experience and enthusiasm next season.Hindsights always 20/20 imo letting Ash Barnes leave was a mistake as was signing Fofana and Ramsey .At least we can bin Fofana.

I'd be stunned if Fofana isn't playing in the Turkish league this time next year. And never mind him, I developed a rift with Kompany when he left him on against Wolves at home despite never getting within 30 yards of the action, let alone the ball.

Funnily enough up to around a month ago the only club to have a made a definite enquiry about Jay was from the MLS. And it was a club that would be difficult to turn down !!
There may have been other interest since then though. I did hear that Ipswich enquired back in January about a loan deal.
I don’t think we will offer him another contract.
He’s been a really good player for us though and hope he finds one more good final deal. He said in his podcast with Ben Foster that he thinks he had a couple of years left of playing and that he’s no interest in going into coaching or management after that.

I was told recently he'd been offered another year, I'd certainly keep him as a squad player next year, Kompany will have seen enough in training to suggest he could still offer us something at that level and his experience will be important.

I love the way we have cries for certain of the old guard to be given a new contract in order to "be around the squad". I saw a list of players we have on our books the other day including those out on loan and staggered at the size and anticipated wage bill for a return of 24 points this season. I have heard the word "progress" mentioned by both AP and VK in the last 24 hours, and you would hope a cull of the squad and filling key positions (none more so than a hungry striker ) are priorities. Jay is not the future, despite his loyalty to our club

Fofana has been disappointing but this seems like a lot of fuss over nothing. Sounds like he was disappointed about being dropped - whatever you might think of that decision, wouldn't you rather the player was a bit aggrieved by that?
Can't see him lasting long at Chelsea, nowhere near the required quality. Probably bounce around the lower leagues of Europe.

Said on here before that with most young players I like to think I can see what they're about and how they've got to the level they're at even if I don't particularly rate them myself because hey, what do I know? Fofana really puzzled me though. Found it difficult to see what made Chelsea buy him. And his attitude just seems off.

He's a BTEC Nathan Tella, but with less effort and shite at finishing.
He gave us a adrenaline shot when he first came in but he's become just another player in the squad you could categorise under lacking quality and/or experience.
