Farewell until next season.
This season most Saturdays it has been the best part of the day, meal with chums on the way home.
Have tried others once or twice but always back to the KD.
Great food.

Not been in for a while now but the Kettledrum always reminds me of Stan.

Odd that they save the seats in the windows for regulars and won't allow others to sit there even when the tables are empty....

Probably for those closet Leeds fans.

They’d do that with me only once…
Food is good tho, nice place too.

Good pub and should probably use more than I do with it being ten minute walk up from my house. I’m a bit of a Thornton Arms loyal though!

We call off for a beer sometimes when out walking in the warmer months and usually sit outside. I didn't realise they practised a
'don't dare sit in Seth's seat' policy. I generally avoid those types of pubs like the plague.

During Covid a table was saved for a group of regulars on a Friday- this was stopped quite a while ago now.

For sure , the OP was an advertisement for this pub and we don’t want it to backfire.
I was going to mention a pub I go into a lot but couldn't think of a reason that would make it relevant.
Maybe have a thread of pubs people go into on match days ?

Can't pay the bills if the seats are empty. Proper old fashioned empty head behaviour from pubs that do this. Be moaning they can't make any money and all pubs are closing next

How on God's earth you are not made to feel welcome ar the Kettledrum is beyond me. Robin, the licencee, is one of the most affable people you could ask to meet and the staff are brilliant. The food and beer are top notch, the service is always excellent and the pub is one of Burnley's better drinking/eating establishments with fantastic views over Burnley and the surrounding countryside.

All the staff are welcoming and the owner sets the standard in that respect. It is a top pub, with really good pub food.

The biggest problem for me is you don’t know you actually owns the shares. Who reports to who?
Is it being propped up by loans? Is it being run by American investment bankers and private equity funds?

Maybe cliquey pubs could have a sign hanging outside saying
'passing trade, please know thy place'. You know, in case an outsider commits the huge blunder of sitting in a local's seat.

No that would be silly.
As an ex pub manager I'm not in favour of seats being reserved (I'd possibly reserve a seat once or twice a year but only for a absolute gold star regular).
It's just that pubs need to look after their regulars and non-regular customers do have to understand that there's a chance that regulars get a slight priority sometimes.
I'm not going to get into a "These fruits are oranges" / "Yes but some fruits are apples" kind of daft back and forth.

Your initial comment wasn't about a 'slight' priority. It was in response to a post stating that windows seats were reversed for regulars, even when the tables are empty. I'm delighted to read that this is now no longer the case.
Anyway, forget that. As an ex pub manager, what would you regard as a 'slight' priority? I can think of one thing that bugs me. Regulars being served before passing trade customers. Those kinds of pubs only get one chance with me. My money is as good as anyone, and if I'm treated differently, I take my money elsewhere. I dare say that many others do the same.

In my local, we don't allow visitors - locals only.

If any of you lot are going to the Euros in Germany this summer, sit thi sen down at a table with a 'Stammtisch' sign. It means 'Reserved for foreign visitors' so you'll be reyt.

It would be like a pub version of Fawlty Towers with Rowls in the Basil Fawlty role. He'd be great at it. I once saw him on here arguing for days on end about snow.

He would change the name too to something more preferable. Something like The Foxhunters
