The steps between Bee Hole End and Longside was like a fast flowing river. Game would never have started under normal circumstances. Horrible start to the season but what a brilliant turnaround.

Yes.
Had my leather jacket on. Took a fortnight to dry out. :D

They gave a dodgy gate number that night too.

Unforgettable, more puddles than grass.
My highlight was the ball launched halfway into the other end of the pitch that came down from the heavens, and didn't bounce at all.
It's one of those no one would believe you if they weren't there.

wasn't the Chesterfield game on 18th May 1982? Same day as the club's centenary, and also my mum's birthday

Ouch.
Mad, wasn't it.
Had my Macon mate with me. We climbed over the fence & went into the Beehole. Just couldn't get into the Longside.

Was it ‘good care’ or ‘more care’? Probably both! That game should not have been played even then. The ground was a lake

The ref wanted to call off the game but Brian Miller was seen pointing to the very large crowd and talking to the referee.
Wasn't the kick off delayed to allow the ground staff to fork the pitch and remove some of the standing water?

It was. They were still coming in even after the delayed start.

Isn’t that the one they opened the away end for us on the turf because the long side was absolutely packed and no chesterfield fans came - so you crossed over the no mans land into it.. i seem to recall doing that … the long side was absolutely rammed

Goodness me, it's scary. I was 19 at the time. I remember trying my best to keep my programme dry but failed miserably.

Remember it well , I was 11 , my first proper promotion, I used used to walk down from cleaver street with my Dad every week and count the away coaches around Queens to guess the gate . I felt invincible that year and looking back what a side ! ….
