Connor Roberts
Connor Roberts
What’s everyone’s opinion on keeping Connor Roberts. Fresh start do you think back at the Turf or is he out of contract. If he’s still contracted to us I’d like to keep him, a new Manager and all that.

The ' squad list ' on this site shows he's under contract till 2025
Re: Connor Roberts
Decent championship defender but there’s something about him I’m not sure of. Did well to get back after being really poorly though.

Re: Connor Roberts
With Sambo coming in I think Connor is surplus to requirements.
Was great after Christmas in 22/23 but never cut it in the PL when afforded the opportunity for us and hasn't done particularly well for DL - he was woeful today as well when he came on.
Sell for me - I think he'll end up back at Swansea.

Re: Connor Roberts
Since Trippier we’ve not been blessed with good right backs unfortunately. Interested to see if Sambo bucks this trend.
Re: Connor Roberts
Roberts was very good for us a year ago. Played the system Kompany wanted his fullbacks to play (tucking inside) and came up with some important goals. He didn't look great this season but not many in claret and blue did.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 6:05 pmSince Trippier we’ve not been blessed with good right backs unfortunately. Sounds like a pre-contract arrangement so he’ll be coming regardless.

Time to go. Otherwise backup until we can replace him.

Re: Connor Roberts
I’ve got nothing to base this on, but always had a niggling feeling that he hasn’t really settled here. He’s a Swansea boy through and through and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him back there. Even if it’s a season long loan to get him off the books.

Roberts seems more interested in being a **** house than playing football.
Re: Connor Roberts
Teams in the Championship are generally skint though. Will be hard to shift the likes of Roberts and Obafemi unless we pretty much give them away.

We were spoilt with Tripps. Matt Lowton was a very able full back and did very well for us imo.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 6:05 pmSince Trippier we’ve not been blessed with good right backs unfortunately. Interested to see if Sambo bucks this trend.

Lowton was a brilliant signing and good pro. £1m was it? Struggle to get someone like him for that money now.

Never really rated Roberts to be honest, I’d be looking to cash in if we can get a few quid for him.

Re: Connor Roberts
There is a good player in there as he proved when we won the Championship, however he is a loose canon at times, and looked on the edge when he came on today. I think a new manager needs to take a close look at all the fringe players before we decide who stays/goes

Re: Connor Roberts
we paid about 2.5 million for Roberts, you would think we could probably get half of that back for him if we decide to sell him - he's only 28 so it's peak years time now.

Re: Connor Roberts
Roberts is a decent full back, and in my opinion, rarely let us down. Absolutely nothing wrong with his shithouse antics either.
He can cross a ball, score a goal, tackle and mark a player, which makes him a far more valuable asset than Vitinho.

Re: Connor Roberts
At his best Matt Lowton was a capable PL RB for teams in the three or four places above the drop zone. Which meant he could get run ragged by Son and Foden but then not many full-backs don't. Ben Mee was in the same bracket, perhaps slightly higher. Which is why he's playing for a club like Brentford (that's meant respectfully because right now I'd love for us to be akin to Brentford).

Re: Connor Roberts
Hopefully the new manager will have better judgements than VK on certain players. I think both Taylor and Roberts can feel unfairly dealt with by Vitinho playing so many times in their RB and LB positions. He seemed obsessed with Vitinho who for me should be no where near the first team

Absolutely. Vitinho is distinctly bang average, which is obviously nowhere near good enough for PL, or a team with big ideas about getting back there.

Re: Connor Roberts
Vitinho is a great sub, can fill in were ever if needed but just not good enough in any position for the first 11
Re: Connor Roberts
I’ve never taken to Roberts. He had a decent spell for a few months, but outside of that he’s been bang average.if we could move him on, I would.
Re: Connor Roberts
Do not like the bloke, another more interested in himself than the grass in front of him.
Couldn't play in the system Kompany wanted, slow, ponderous, and had no 360 ability.
Do not want him back at the club.

Not dismissing the job he did but following Trippier was always going to be a hard gig. For the money spent can’t complain.
We need to find the next Tripps really. Looking at big clubs cast offs could be the key here , we’ve done well from that in the past.
Let’s see if Sambo is the man!
Unfortunately Roberts isn’t good enough for the prem so no point sticking with him in the championship. Just delaying the change another year.

I'm not sure if that is an endorsement of Vitinho or not. Can't fault the effort but I'm never particularly confident about other aspects of his game; notably passing, crossing and decision making. Doesn't sound too good does it?johnnyjones wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 2:24 amVitinho is a great sub, can fill in were ever if needed but just not good enough in any position for the first 11

I think that Roberts made some pretty disparaging remarks when he went on loan to DL so I’m not sure if he would want to return to us.
Re: Connor Roberts
Yes but wasn’t that to do with the management and it’s set up. Was he right? I would have thought the new Manager will want to look at him first before making any decision.

Re: Connor Roberts
I'd like him to stay, BUT he is likely one of our top earners. If we need to balance the books then his departure isn't going to hurt us.
Re: Connor Roberts
What’s the system that Kompany wanted? Play players out of position, p!ss about with it at the back, lose possession, concede, rinse and repeat?
I think we will be seeing him back with us for the pre season and he should be raring to go to make a good impression on the new manager.

Conner Roberts Mrs has been on Twitter saying how she’s going to miss Leeds, so he’s not expecting to move there at least. I’d be happy enough to see him back. People talk about his antics but how much of that was being asked of him by the manager?

Re: Connor Roberts
Thought Lowton had the difficult task of following Trippier which was virtually impossible but I thought did really well for us. Bardsley was probably considered cover but was another I thought did really well. Either of those two at their best would have been a big improvement last season.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 5:15 pmWouldn’t say excellent Tony but they did a reasonable job.
