We've not played at Wembley that often - three times at each of the old and new stadiums if you include the league games against Spurs - but this is the date where we've played there twice.

1988 - Sherpa Van Trophy Final v Wolves
1994 - Division Two Play-Off Final v Stockport

McDonald’s just outside Wembley in 94. Burnley fans downstairs and County fans in the small upstairs area…where the toilets were positioned!

Queues so long for the toilets at HT that fans were peeing in sinks and some were aiming over the edge of those open concourse areas.

I also recall big Kev Francis trying to change his shorts during the game and finding the task somewhat difficult.

The goals speak for themselves (Beaumont, Eyres, Parky), but what a goal that would have been from Stevie Davis, as he ran the length of the pitch with the ball. Sadly, he put his shot out for a throw

Had a splitting headache all day

Had a sip of beer (aged 12 at the time) on the concourse

Me and the guy behind me being certain we would win when they scored as it seemed to be a theme at that point (us winning from behind)

The shout from behind the goal while we were still groaning as Parky's shot crept in.

Singing non stop for what felt like hours afyer the game despite the horrendous headache.

I bet Stockport thought it was a home game for us they were outnumbered
Wolves game probably 60-40 in their favour and it was sunny

As a kid for the 88 final I remember being in awe of the amount of Wolves fans and the size of their support. Unbelievable to think they were a 4th division side like us at the time

94', I remember going down to the Mechanics a few days before the final to buy claret and blue face paint with my mum. Stopped off at a service station on the way down on the coach and caked my face in it and passed the jars around to other fans travelling with us. Got back on the coach, handed the bus driver the 'Wembley 94'' tape and had the song played on repeat all the way to the stadium. Brilliant day out, Wembley felt much more compact than I imagined. Amazing to see so many Burnley fans packing half the stadium.

I had my name announced over the PA at the end of the Wolves game, yes, my name announced at Wembley.

I was running one of the Supporters Club coaches and one of the passengers had suffered an asthma attack and I was asked to attend the medical centre. Still, I did get my name announced at Wembley.

Stockport, I'd been unwell all week but managed to drive down with a boot full of bog rolls just in case. As it turned out I was fine on the day (mind over matter) but was then ill for the next 4-5 weeks.

I recall Frank Teasdale telling us the day in 1988 was 'Absolutely Fantastic'. I've never seen a 2-0 defeat as absolutely fantastic, but 1994 was very different.

88:
My first trip to Wembley and only my third ever BFC game - not much I can remember except i think we were on the very back row and my dad bought me a BFC flat cap and scarf on Wembley Way

94:
My grandma saving up Burnley Expresses and me cutting out images of players and sticking them to the inside of my dad's green Mondeo for the drive down from Yorkshire
Stopping for Maccys on the way back at a services, seeing the result on Ceefax on a portable telly above the counter and thinking we'd made it!

Nothing worse than not being able to go in 94

1994 ... I bought a bottle of wine in the Offy next to Willesden Green Tube station and was walking back to my Stepdaughters place in Cricklewood. A young kid stopped me and asked what was the flag I was holding, I told him it was a Burnley Flag as I had just been to Wembley ... he asked if he could have the flag as it would be cool to put it on his bike ... so I gave him the flag and he bounced off singing "Burnley Burnley Burnley" waving the flag madly.

The following morning we saw him on his bike (with the flag on his handlebars) riding up the street .

I like to think that day I started the Cricklewood Burnley supporters group

Won 2-0, Peter Noble scored a belter for the 2nd. Can’t remember much else detail wise.

Did Steve Kindon play one half for them, and one for us? Maybe I’ve imagined that part.

1988 one, I went on a school trip to England school boys at Wembley god knows who against which was the day before the Wolves game. We went on the train and coming back after the match there was a load of Boro on the train heading to Leeds who had been at Chelsea for the play off final (the one where it was carnage on the pitch at full time) as impressionable 14/15 year olds we were given the chance to have a beer which was taken once the teachers weren't paying attention.

Got home then got ready to go all the way back the next day for a proper match. Such a difference from May 87

On a coach down to Wembley for the Wolves game, first ever Burnley away game, with my Grandad and my Mum. Coach full of people from Harle Syke, and it was one of the new air suspensions coaches, that sort of rolled all over - lads at the back singing Rock and Roll hey - all the way down.

Got to the ground, no drinks allowed in, so there were piles of them by the entrances. Mum had gone to take ours back to the coach, so I stood with my grandad near the turnstiles waiting for her to get back. A police sergeant on the inside asked my grandad to pass him a can as it was so warm, which he did - only to be pushed up against the rails by another policeman who was going to arrest him for passing in the drinks. Thankfully the sergeant on the inside saw what was happening and came back to explain, and apologise profusely to grandad.

Remember the day being amazing, and totally overwhelming on all senses. Happy times.

For some reason I remember Laurie McMenemy was our Legends manager....? (but i was only a kid at the time so don't quote me)

There was an isolated pen of Wolves fans on the upper terrace at the Burnley end, which looked really odd. I wasn't too bothered that we lost as it was pretty much expected given the front line of Steve Bull and Andy Mutch and the fact that they bulldozed the fourth division that year. Looking back, I preferred the second leg of the northern final at Deepdale for sheer enjoyment. Now that really was special.

1994: broke down on the M40, missed the the first 30 mins of the match and was at the top of Olympic Way when David Eyres scored. It was so obvious from the enormous roar that it was Burnley who had scored, but I was a bit naffed off to learn from the chap on the turnstile that it was only an equaliser. I remember the atmosphere hitting me as we made our way to our seats. The place was bouncing. Also remember all the players joining in with No Nay Never at the end, with Inchy giving it full lungs for "b*st@rd rovers".

A further thought on ‘88. I seem to remember watching a video that was made of the day, including the journey down etc.

94 walking up Wembley Way, and the guys selling Stockport flags and scarves wishing they'd had the day off. Also the motorway stops on the way home.e, crammed with celebrating Clarets.


88 it was the great atmosphere and massive crowd. The pre game Vintage Clarets vs Old Gold, and Steve 'bloody Bull. Wish he'd been born in Burnley.

For the '94 game Accy Clarets took 21 coaches to the game. The Stanley pub in Accy (where we ran our coaches from in those days) stayed open all night and our coaches left at 6am. After the last coach had left 4 lads came out of the pub looking for their coach which had gone!. We ended up getting them a taxi to take them to Wembley!

Probably the only time I wasn't too fussed about the result for the '88 game. Crazy how Steve Bull was playing in the fourth tier, sure he got called up for England the season after when he was still playing in the third division. Imagine that happening now.

Nick - Wasn't a problem for me, as after the game I was flying to Turkey from Gatwick at midnight and had a taxi waiting for me! Also, getting off the car park is far worse if you haven't won, if you have won who cares how long it takes!

Bull, Mutch & Dennison was way too much for that division and the same the following season. Didn't they win the 3rd div the season after Wembley ?

They did - two promotions in successive seasons and then they stayed there for 14 years before their first season in the Premier League.

I always think of Wolves as a big club given they were right up there when I first started watching football.

Wolves game - Very late decision to go. Went in my brother Pete's old knackered cavalier. Exhaust smoking like a good un all the way there and back. Picked up some lads who were hitching at Charnock Richard. Offered them a lift back but didn't see them following the game. Dont think they could stand the smell of burning oil all the way back!

Stockport game - I was married and living in Devon so had been to a lot of the M4 corridor and southern games that year including Home Park heaven. Because we were living down there we got tickets for the home end ( I was there with the wife) It started getting a bit lairy so asked the stewards if we could move to the Burnley end, which they kindly did. The rest is history
Come the day of the Stockport game at Wembley I had been on a sleep in (I was managing a Nursing home in Crediton) One of the lads who worked for me said "Yeah no problem - I'll come in early for you boss then you can get a flyer up the road!" Course the **** then went out on the p*** and slept in!! Mad dash up to Wembley but what a day that was! "Ted McMinn the intended man!!!!!" - still got the video somewhere.

I only went to the last two due to he being a mere whippersnapper at 66!

Went to both. The Wolves game I saw as a bit of a throw away game, just to have Burnley back at Wembley and a crowd of 88,000 ish was a decent experience despite the defeat.

Stockport was much more serious and a must win, which of course we did.

My abiding memory though is of walking to the ground with my late mate; Mick was shall we say a big unit and a Chelsea fan who took the opportunity to take his two young lads to a game at Wembley - their first. Burnley fans on the pavement outside the pub when they clocked Mick and gave him "who ate all the pies" which he was able to laugh off having long before accepted his size!!

In August we're having a golf day to mark 10 yrs since he passed and I'll be bringing this up with his two lads for sure.

Stockport after going 1 down then a man up it felt like we were always going to win. The huge support at our end and a little wedge of Stockport fans at the other (about 5k). Then there was the Tin Man...

Driving down the M6 and passing beers through the window to a car full of Wolves fans . Plus getting to Wembley and seeing the size of the man mountain Floyd Street !! Stockport , was just amazed at the lack of support they brought and the Burnley fans singing the Adams family theme tune to Kevin Francis ( who ****** himself laughing ) .

I was right next to that enclave of Wolves fans. Had a good laugh with them, for the most.

We were on TY's coach in 2009, he had quite a happy 50th birthday that day....

88 - there were 7 of us from Worsthorne who went down on the Sarurday morning staying just off Baker Street. We returned on the Monday via National Express bus service.

94- My middle brother was stationed near Reading so myself & younger brother + wives went down to stay at his the night before and driving straight back to just make last orders at the Bay which went on for a while...

How I wish and wish Davies had crowned his amazing late run by tapping in, but he fluffed his lines when it seemed easier to score.

I remember in 88 us singing a weird song about Origami, it went something like "We're going to Wembley, Origami" I didn't even know what Origami actually was till years later

Still not sure what it was about but maybe back in those days fans made badges and hats out of paper???

Took the special train down for the 94 game.

Ended up having to run to the ground to make KO.

Barely sat down when Stockport scored.

Missed Parky’s goal as I went to the loo.

Apart from that, great day!

Wolves went on a coach from Accy Rd, more like a Norman Jones beer bus it was a great journey down. Stuck in traffic in London so driver let us off and we walked / staggered last couple of miles just made it for kick off. After the game it was like we had won constant singing in Wembley and coach park, I think we were remembering what could have happened the year before.
Stockport went down with family and stayed in a hotel, Clarets everywhere and time stood still watching Parkies goal go in.

Memories. We had booked a week in Western-Super - Mare when we were about to play Stockport. The whole family set out to Wembley from our hotel decked out, along with the car in Claret and Blue. Some puzzled expressions from the locals.
