Jeff Hendrick
Just released by Newcastle. Worth a punt ?
Re: Jeff Hendrick
Ha. I rated him when he was with us to be fair. Really gone downhill since.
Re: Jeff Hendrick
Don't be surprised to see him pitch up at Everton.

Re: Jeff Hendrick
He was decent when he played for us, but he was in a very, very good team which dragged him up a level I always felt. He scored some good goals and was in the team when we had some amazing results, so although never my favourite, he couldn't have been too shabby tbh.

For me overrated and over appreciated.
OK on the right hand side but never a number 10.
Good squad player but no more than that, sold at the right time and didnβt pull up many trees since.
Did well for himself and financially secure I guess. Good luck to him

Re: Jeff Hendrick
He wasn't played to be a typical 'number 10'. He was there to win second balls and put pressure on opponents defensive midfielder.Belgianclaret wrote: βWed May 29, 2024 6:39 pmFor me overrated and over appreciated.

Never as bad as he was painted on here.
Probably a better athlete than a footballer but I still remember some bloody good moments.
An earlier version of Brownhill, maybe.

Overrated when we bought him, but became a target for the boo boys and under appreciated when he sacrificed himself for the good of the team, when Dyçhe had him playing in what was a different role for him.

A far better player than Dean Marney who for some reason walked on water according to some fans Who can forget Jeff finishing off a 23 pass move v Everton.
A good player sadly under appreciated by many of our fans.

Re: Jeff Hendrick
It's hardwork sometimes reading fans' opinions about a player.
He was an integral part of a team that finished 7th in the PL. Not every player is doing all their best work with the ball at all.
Take Berge - I really like him and he's fantastic in possession and driving forward, but I think gets fair overrated on here because defensively he loses players quite a lot.
This article breaks down why Jeff Hendrick was good for us in an unfavored role of his:

Re: Jeff Hendrick
What's that based on? I'd definitely have taken Marney over Hendrick in an orthodox central midfield role.Woodleyclaret wrote: βThu May 30, 2024 10:14 amA far better player than Dean Marney who for some reason walked on water according to some fans Who can forget Jeff finishing off a 23 pass move v Everton.

We probably stay up in Dyches first season if Marney stays fit.

Great article! I always thought that whenever we lost, Hendrick was the scapegoat, but then never got any praise when we won.CoolClaret wrote: βThu May 30, 2024 10:28 amIt's hardwork sometimes reading fans' opinions about a player.

I thought he slotted into a really good team and played a variety of positions with little fuss.
Overall he was a solid player for us in a team that finished 7th in the PL.

Re: Jeff Hendrick
I donβt mind saying it: thought he was excellent for us.
A very important cog in the midfield unit of:
JBG
Hendrick
Defour
Cork
Arfield
Brady
Westwood
Lennon
Jeff more than played his part in a Burnley shirt. If weβd signed him for the few we offered when first interested (see Clive Holtβs book), views would be hugely different.

Re: Jeff Hendrick
I also thought he was excellent for us.. gave Dyche the option of a 4-5-1. So, was Marney albeit I would agree with anyone who struggled to see what he did. Ironically, he was the one player you could only see what he did when he wasn't playing because whatever it was the others were not doing it.

He wasnβt a number 10 but when he played in that first half of the 2017/18 season he was a vital player. Fit the system perfectly.Belgianclaret wrote: βWed May 29, 2024 6:39 pmFor me overrated and over appreciated.

We didnβt sell him either. This was when and why the Garlick/Dyche situation surfaced publicly.
Re: Jeff Hendrick
Whatever his true worth - I think he wins the UTC award for "Player Who Most Divided Fans" despite several excellent contenders last season - his career went downhill not long after leaving us.
A bright start at Newcastle - goal and assist on his debut- gradually faded and had lost favour with Bruce. It was thus patently obvious he would be offloaded when the Saudis rocked up.
Average at Reading, QPR and Wednesday.
I think he'll be in Wollywood very shortly.

Re: Jeff Hendrick
He certainly wasn't a no 10, and he looked out of place at times, but when Dyche explained that his role was to pick up the second ball and recycle it, it all made sense. It suddenly became obvious what a good job Hendrick was doing for us.ClaretTony wrote: βThu May 30, 2024 4:53 pmHe wasnβt a number 10 but when he played in that first half of the 2017/18 season he was a vital player. Hendrick played in 122 out of 140 Premier Leagues while at Burnley with 107 of them starts. He was a member of the best Burnley team in years too.

Another player we paid a handsome fee for /. I think in the region of 10 million we allowed to leave on a free /.. as a player I always thought he was decent and scored soem fantastic goals
Re: Jeff Hendrick
Marney is English, Hendrick is Irish. I think it's fair to say it's much easier to get caps for Ireland.Woodleyclaret wrote: βThu May 30, 2024 11:24 amJeff was a full international Marney was a plodder ideal in Div 2 no comparison imo
Hendrick probably had slightly more ability but I'd take Marney over him for that central role any day.

Two totally different players but Marney was another vital player in the first promotion and then again until he got his second ACL.
