Glad Wout has made it, always good when a club legend goes to major tournaments.

Maatsen probably wouldn't be available for their squad meet up, tied up playing in a Champions League final v Real Madrid. Better off with Wout, you know he'll be there.

And why wouldn’t he go? Decent player in there if you play to his strengths….Spectacularly mismanaged here.

The Dutch must have some cracking left backs to leave Maatsen at home after the season he’s just had.

Weird how the only two current Burnley players I’ve heard booed this season are both in their country’s provisional squads for this summer’s Euros.

I would say he's rated about right. He has been pretty poor in his time in England, for us and Man Utd.

He has certainly been better than anything we had up front last season. He keeps making the Dutch squad also.
One thing he would have done which we were hopeless at last season is hold the ball up and at least have a bit of fight.
I hope the new manager fancies him because he could be a real threat next season, unlike Foster and Amdouni running up blind alleys for most of the matches.

No argument from me that he would have been better than what we have had up front this season. We are setting the bar incredibly low there though :D

Yes but my point is we were relegated and we had a better forward out on loan than we had in our team.

Dyche didn't want him, we didn't play to his strengths with that relegation side; For some reason Man Utd, despite him being 'pretty poor' kept giving him lots of game time as did the Netherlands!

Out of interest, what are you basing this on. It can't be the stats.

Lyle Foster has 5 premier league goals from 24 appearances and Weghorst has 2 Premier league goals from 37 appearances.

In fairness to Wout half them games were probably for a team as bad as Man Utd :D

Amdouni, Fofana and Rodriguez all had better goalscoring records last season than Weghorst's time in the PL too.

It’s not just about goals. Otherwise he wouldn’t have played so many games for Man United on loan.
It’s his link up play, holding a ball up, physical presence also. But if you think Lyle Foster is a better forward than Weghorst then no point having a debate.
Again, my point is we were abysmal last season and had a better player out on loan. Additionally 7 goals from 28 games and numerous assists for a team that finished 7th in the Bundesliga last season isn’t too shabby.

Laughable argument. Funny how Weghorst has made the Dutch squad for another big tournament. None of those three would if they were Dutch.
And don’t quote Amdouni playing for the mighty Switzerland either. They should stick to making watches and chocolate. Perhaps someone should have told Alan Pace this before Kompany pulled his pants down for another 15 million on another dud.

I don't think "would they get in the Dutch squad if they were Dutch" is actually a better argument than "do they score goals in the Premier League" but each to their own.

I think it's right that he's made the Dutch squad, although I can't say I know anything about the alternatives. His cameo against Argentina in the World Cup means he's someone you would take on your bench to the next tournament.

What it doesn't mean is that he wasn't crap for Burnley, wasn't crap for Manchester United or that he would have helped us at all last season.

On Amdouni, I don't think he's been a good signing but I do think the manager making a bad signing is vaguely preferable to Pace making a bad signing himself as he did with Weghorst.

I think Weghorst has more than proved he could do the business for Burnley. Euro 2024 will be his third international tournament on the trot and he's scored in the previous two.

You seem to be basing your opinion on the fact he played for United.

I honestly don't understand how getting in the Dutch squad has anything to do with how you perform in the Premier League.
Surely how you have performed in the Premier League matters and he has had 30+ games.

Just imagine a player going in for a pay rise -
Player- " I want a £5k pay rise"
Boss-" You've not scored for 23 games "
Player - " I'm in the Dutch squad"
Boss- " Ok, here you go, in fact make it £10k"

Nothing to do with the United factor. I actually liked his work rate and general effort when he played for us after the January transfer window. He was a threat and could hold the ball up well and good link up play.
He did miss a sitter against Villa but I couldn’t fault his effort and will to win.
You and others clearly don’t rate him. Fine. I won’t lose any sleep over it. I hope he has a good time at the European Championships.

I don't think it was a coincidence that Rashford had a great season with Wout leading the line and pulling defenders out of position. Rashford's form this season has been awful in comparison

And the 0 goals from 17 appearances, from a team that finished 3rd in the PL? The United fans even said by the end the whole link up play thing was a myth.

I think I'd be worrying about his PL performances, when stating he's a better option than what he did in Germany.

Because of the seeding we should stroll to the semis - so only 2 ‘difficult’ games to win.
We have a very strong chance even with Gareth in charge

Played his usual blinder in the final.
Incisive pass, right across his own goal, near the end. Plonker.

Peter Crouch scored over 100 premier league goals and 22 goals for England in 43 games. He was much better
