Gawthorpe Hall to be a new Royal Residence?

A chat with a colleague had me thinking that, long understood Trough of Bowland bolthole aside, there aren't many places for the British Monarch to rest his head in the North.

What better place than Gawthorpe Hall? I'm sure he could make some arrangement with the National Trust, and it would be handy for him to observe training and for night matches at the Turf.

No thanks, they've got more than enough homes to live in courtesy of the taxpayer.

Try looking down Stoops or down Barden. There's plenty of houses to rest their weary head at the curtesy of the taxpayer. Down with the monarchy.

I wound imagine the security costs alone would be astronomical considering the layout and location of the building.

A huge team wound be required..

I think Towneley Hall would be a much better option. Lots of land for horse riding. It would be easier to secure the whole park for him and his Royal entourage.

Also, he would get rid of those ghastly diesel-belching ice cream vans and nobody would ever risk getting ripped off again. A win-win for me.

Absolutely -nobody in Burnley needs that kind of space. Gives them more time to be in the Big Window.

Maybe a whole half floor of the 'new' Kierby!
Be handy when Charlie drops in on match days?

It's a good idea but he'll need to have a think about buses if he's staying for a midweek game.

They get packed when the game finishes late. Maybe the bus company have a "King's Seat" reserved each service for him?

There’s a rather large landowner in the North who entertains the Royal Family when they’re in the area.

If the town gave him Towneley Hall and Parkland, he could use the hidden tunnel. It runs from the hall to the Turf.

Duke of Devonshire?

Owns the gravel bed under my house apparently. I was thinking of digging it up and sending it to him.

Pfffft. Who’d want a bed of gravel? I’ve got a mattress and everything. Even got pillows. These toffs can keep their gravel.

He owns Bolton Abbey so probably doesn't need his gravel bed.

That place doesn’t even have a roof.

Starting to think this fella’s not as wealthy as he’s making out.

He's also confused. Calls himself The Duke of Devonshire when he actually lives in Derbyshire.

Perhaps Devon was too expensive.

Had a meeting with a guy down south recently who said when he worked in insurance, he worked with a chap who claimed he had 'a bit of land' in Burnley....

Turns out he was referring to Peregrine Townley!

He owns the majority of the land of Bowland including the Trough not sure why he’d need a gaff in Burnley/Padiham.

I've now decided it's a bad idea to give our king Towneley Park. The place is like a dog toilet these days and it might be considered a massive insult if our town were to gift it to Charles III.

Tongue in cheek as it is, this thread certainly raises something that is a big problem in this country.

Entitlement.

For those interested in Local War of the Three Kingdoms/English Civil War…

Towneley is a much better call than Gawthorpe. Charles Towneley was killed at Marston Moor defending Charles I (Cavalier ) and Towneley Hall was confiscated by Cromwell as a result.

Gawthorpe Hall was owned by the Parlimentarian /Republican (Roundhead) Shuttleworth.

Their forces clashed in skirmishes at Read and Enfield (Accrington)
