If weghorst genuinely thinks he has a chance of making the Dutch World Cup squad in 2 years he probably moves on but if after the euros he thinks that’s it for him at national level he might stay for 12 months and see out his contract

He’d be the best striker at the club by a country mile but I don’t think he’d fancy a season in the Championship.

He’d rather be anywhere other than Burnley. He didn’t even fancy it in the Premier League so the chances he fancies a do in the Championship must be Elvis Costello levels.
Please get shut.

Another Dutch flop in the VDS mould
Whoever signed him ? Never what we needed and his cba attitude wouldn't help us at all
Get rid free if necessary

Championship is about his level in English football so if he's willing to play then keep him. Assuming we got back to the PL he'd have to go, though.

I'd take him back for sure. But like all players, only if they're up for putting a shift in for us. Otherwise, shift on.

Yeah he was laughed at by a lot of people in the media while playing for Man Utd.
But he was the only one in their team that passed the ball to his fellow forwards, the rest were greedy bar stewards.
Man Utd are a worse team with him not in it, as crazy as that sounds.

Fun Fact - Man U Scored more goals when he was off the pitch, than when he was on it. I think the Leeds game springs to mind as his finest hour when he missed two simple chances, was subbed off at half time at 0-0 and Man U went on to win 4-0.
The media tried to put a positive spin on him at first until they also realised he was yet another import from the Bundesliga who flopped in the PL.

He tired the Leeds defence out in the first half though

He only got 7 goals in the Bundesliga last season from 28 games (Tella got 5 from 24 for comparison, a wide player) so his goalscoring even in that league is clearly on the wane from his heyday. He was rubbish for us but I would 100% have him in the Champ. I am hugely unconvinced by our forwards going into next season as things stand and it's surely time we attempted to get 'something' out of this transfer. Whoever comes in as manager needs to be signing a striker as a priority if Weghorst isn't sticking around.

By all accounts he was an absolute cock, so even if he got 10+ goals it would be to the detriment of the team spirit. A mutual termination would be best i think

Half my family from Urmston so unfortunately, yes. That coupled with working for a firm, who had a corporate box at Man U meant I had more Weghorst inflicted on me last year than I would have hoped for.

He's tidy on the ball and his link up play is fairly decent, but it was glaringly obvious especially from his time at United that he is far too slow for the English game. He often couldn't keep up with play once he had played his lay off/created an attack - by the time the ball was out wide and ready to be played inside he was miles behind play. If we can recoup any money and get him off the wage bill then that would suit all parties.

Absolute cr@p to say he is Championship standard at best. He is better than any striker we had in the Premier League last season and could easily cut the mustard at any of the newly promoted teams and perennial strugglers like Everton and Forest.
Established Dutch International, Championship standard. Hilarious

Exactly, shipping him off only to then absolutely stink the league out with Lyle Jay & Fofana upfront was absolutely the wrong call. He’s the best striker in the champ by a country mile next season if he stayed around.

Indeed.
His goals in the WC "legitimised" (partially) Ten Haag getting the go ahead to sign him.

Absolutely spot on. Utd had a great run of form when he joined them. Like barnes last season for us, pivotal and unselfish and both shouldn’t be judged on goals scored.

If he is loaned again this coming season, then we may have a record on our hands, in that we signed an international player , on a presumably 3.5 year deal, who went on loan for 85% of his contract. Does not sound like good business

I think it might actually be very good business. Surely all the loan fees received and wages paid by other clubs can't be all bad for an unhappy/unwanted/unneeded player.Maybe there will be a few more offloaded in this way for the coming season if clawing back a half decent transfer fee proves too difficult.
