Would have been the one player I'd have kept if we could choose one. A great club servant. Deserves a decent move.

Our midfield in the first half of the 17/18 season was simply sublime. JBG, Defour, Cork and Brady were all on top of their game for a short period. It was such a shame to lose Defour and Brady to injury. JBG has remained one of my favourite Clarets and he'll clearly be missed. His experience and calmness on the ball would have been a huge help in the Championship. I hope he gets a good move though, he's still got something to give.

He has been great for us. Always put a decent shift, rarely let us down and was capable at times of making the difference in some games. He, amongst other last season was inexplicably left on the sidelines for players not as good or experienced. Good luck to the lad for the future. I am sure someone will more more than likely appreciate how much of an asset he can really be.

Minor typo in there, Tony.

Saying JBG was the architect of all OUR good play, when he was playing for Charlton, is a little unfair!

The Iceman Leaveth

Can you remind me who our first Icelandic international if JBG was the second?

That would be Joey Gudjonsson, who played for us between 2007-2010.

Sad to see him go, I think he would have been at his best again next season, assuming the new Manager picked him. Terrific for us, I can only wish him well.

A club somewhere is going to benefit from what I consider a mistake to let him go. A cultured footballer, rarely gave the ball away and moved so gracefully. Big thankyou JBG.

One of the few of the old guard that I’ve liked us to keep this season. Been a very good player for us but shame about the injuries. Assist numbers were good and always thought he should score more. He had a lot of near misses.

Excellent player, always seemed to wear the shirt with pride, great rapport with the fans and never appeared to be a sulker or a shirker, even when it seemed he was maybe being undervalued or underused by management. Suffered more than his fair share of injuries which was extremely frustrating and that situation really wasn't helped by the awful challenge by the Lincoln thug in the cup match at the Turf. Still, some great memories including two brilliant assists which always come to mind. He rattled the bar from distance against Everton and Scotty scored the winner from the rebound and he tore away from that Palace corner and played a brilliant return ball to Barnes who slammed it into the net.

Really sad to see JBG leave. Wasn't particularly whelmed when he signed but oh my word what a pro we've had in him these past seasons.

Thank you JBG and good luck wherever you go in the future.

Top, top professional. We struck absolute gold landing JBG and Pope from relegated Charlton. Just shows, there’s a lot of talent in the EFL!

Thank you, JBG. I sense he still had something to give.

Injuries severely blighted what would have been an exceptional career.
As it was, it was still really good.

A great player in a great era for the football club. JBG played a big part in that. By all accounts a very down to earth grounded bloke. A friend of mine told me met him outside the ground on match day whenJBG out injured. He was in his club tracksuit chatting with fans, happy for photos etc. it’s rare for me to miss players when they depart however on his day JBG was a player that could create something and had great technique ability. Would certainly still do a good job in the championship.

He'll be missed. I've no idea where he's heard it, but a mate of mine thinks him and JBL are going to Fulham. Wouldn't surprise me if he does stay in the top league.

I’d be pretty surprised if he got a PL deal. Can see a decent Champ club like a West Brom coming in for him.

Superb player for us.

Think he'd have been worth two and felt he should have been used more last year. He's not got the pace for a wide role anymore but he's such an intelligent and technically skilled player, efficient and effective. In the 22-23 championship I was so impressed by his adaptability, he played both wings, CAM, CDM, and at times in our system even dropped into leftback to cover Maatsen pushing up and in. Incredible football intelligence.

Playing centrally he could do a job for quite a few PL sides for a couple more years and I'll be surprised if Everton don't go in for him. To be that good a pure footballer and also be able to play multiple roles- wide, central, centre attacking - is valuable. After Eidur Gudjohnsen and the regrettable Sigurdsson he's probably Iceland's 3rd best ever player.

He should have played more often at full back this season. He's diligent in his defending, surprisingly good in the air and has quality going forwards. I'd have trusted him a lot more there than Vitinho that's for sure.

He's ended up second to Jimmy Mac as Burnley's most capped player, whilst with the club. ( 41 ).
Great player, and ambassador for the club.

I suspect Brian Flynn had previously held second place but I hadn’t realised JBG had reached so many.

Absolutely superb player for us and an excellent servant. I'm sure he'll still get a Championship club too, but unlike others I'm not too upset he's leaving. We have so many talented young wide players and/or attacking midfielders that I'd prefer to develop those over keeping JBG. From a choice (when fit) of Koloesho, Benson, Odobert, Ramsey, Tresor, Redmond, we have more than enough talent that either needs experience or provides good back up. But that's not any criticism of JBG, at £2.5 million he's been an absolute gem of a signing.

Superb signing at a bargain price

However it’s time to move on, he’s 33 and hasn’t really played the majority of our games in a season for about 5-6yrs now

Good luck to him
