I am off next Sunday, staying 3 nights in Cologne then one night in Frankfurt on the 26th. Got no tickets for any games but hoping to see Slovakia v Romania on the 23rd in Frankfurt. Poss buy tickets via Viagogo.

Will be in Frankfurt for the Slovenia game on 22nd but planning to watch it in a pub as ticket are an arm and leg and we will probably play crap!

Anyone got any tips / hints of how to best enjoy the occasions? Where are you going? Pubs recommended? Having seen reports of the fan park in Munich for the sweaties (3 hour queues for beer etc) I think I will be avoiding them.

Going with my girlfriend so wanting to avoid areas where chairs will be potentialy flying overhead!

Careful of viagogo unless it’s changed since I used it 5/6 years ago.

I live in Frankfurt, pretty much every boozer has a screen up with the match on. I'd avoid the area round the main station as it's a bit ropey in parts, especially around Moselstraße anf Taunusstraße.

Cologne is a great City to explore over 2-3 days. Dusseldorf easily reachable by train so maybe do a day there too.

Went in 2006 and had a great time. Was based in Germany for 3 years in the 90’s. Great country. Enjoy! Come on England!!!

That’s a crazy decision in my humble opinion. The way the replay was slowed for the review didn’t take into account the way the defender was wrestling his arm.

It’s the sort of decision that really kills the game.

Whoops. Wrong thread.

So, if you want to be away from the main areas to avoid any trouble, then you could walk over the river to Sachsenhausen. There's loads of traditional Apfelwein places there, selling the aforementioned stuff. It's similar to cider. Apfelwein Dauth-Schneider has the footy on I believe. There's all sorts of cool places down there.

Another option is to go up to Bornheim on the U-Bahn. It's about 3 stops from Konstablerwache and there's loads of bars up there.

Finally, there's a decent craft beer bar if that is your thing called The Station. It's on Oederweg, and is about a 15 minute walk from the Hauptwache. These lads have screens up too. Quite a few decent independent bars and restaurants on Oederweg, and the surrounding streets too. Imagine European café culture.

In the centre, then there's a place called the Kleinmarkthalle. There's an excellent wine place on the balcony. Frankfurt is bang in the middle of Germany's main wine regions, so it's excellent and generally pretty cheap at around 5 euros for a 0,2l glass.

If you like a cocktail, then there's loads of places, but Helium just off the Zeil is decent.

It's a hugely underrated city, and you really need to scratch under the surface to get to know it.

I was in Cologne the other week, they were gearing up for the footy and it's a great city. I've been 3 times but somehow missed this place until my latest visit. The second biggest beer hall in Germany, right across from the Cathedral. Great beer, great food and the beer garden at the rear, is a real suntrap, Opens 11am daily until late.

I was in there last Sept although I never saw the beer garden. I much prefer the Fruh Am Dom or Peters Brauhaus both in the Alter Markt if you prefer something smaller Die Kleiner Glocke on Glockener Gasse gets an honourable mention.

Thansk for the tips everyone. Cannot wait. Bought tickets for Slovakia v Romania yesterday online, for far more than I was expecting for two minnows. Will be a great exerience though.
