What a player who sadly is paying a huge price for his amazing efforts for our club. Hopefully the club is assisting Willie and his family.

Just been talking about Willie to a friend of mine and his goal scoring before that injury at Everton. He was only 23 at the time. Had he not got that injury who knows how many goals he’d have scored. Probably Bob Lord would have sold him for big money.
Phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal. I will never see the likes again.

As I’ve said on here before, the reason why I became a Claret.
I was a young, impressionable lad from NornIron, playing for a boy’s team coached by Willie’s brother, Joe.
Joe and my father were serving in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers - at that time in Berlin.
Perhaps influenced by Joe, I became a fan of Burnley, and of Willie.
That admiration remains.
I hope he has had a wonderful birthday.

My favourite Burnley player.A joy to watch him play football, a natural striker who made scoring goals look so easy. Happy Birthday Willie.

Morgan, Irvine, Lochhead, Harris and Coates....what a forward line. Happy birthday Willie, a natural goal scorer.

I remember watching out for his progress during his youth team experiences as he played in the A and B teams and then the Central League. His goal scoring rate was phenomenal and we waited anxiously for his first team call up.
He obviously did not disappoint. A fantastic player . I think he made his NI debut before his Burnley one! It was a privilege to have seen play. Happy Birthday Willie and thanks for the memories.

I was so fortunate to have the Spurs v Burnley FA Cup game in March 1966 as my first ever game watching Burnley.
Yes we lost 4-3 in a cracking match but who scored a hat trick for Burnley?
None other than Willie Irvine!

Happy Birthday Willie!

Used to love Willie and his mate Andy Lochhead coming in my bar after the match and arguing about amongst other things, whose round it was and the price of a pint! They were both in after the Stockport game where Paul Barnes scored 5 goals, something Andy did twice and boy, did he let Willie know all about it.
Willie was before my time, but from someone who's opinion i respect and followed Burnley from the 1960s onwards, he was the second best goal scorer he had seen. The best? Jimmy Greaves. Not a bad player to be second best to.
A day late but best wishes to one of our all time greats and a lovely bloke to go with it.

Greaves was the best for me and I always thought Spurs in the mid-60s with Greaves and Gilzean were the only forward pair better than ours. I'd add in Denis Law too at Man U during that time.
Andy & Willie arguing - what a surprise !! - They were best of mates though the two of them.

Yes, Jimmy Greaves in a league of his own. People today like looking at stats. and Jimmy Greaves' were phenomenal. Willie was brilliant too, good header of the ball and two footed and like grease lightning in the penalty box. Trying to mark him for 90 minutes must have been a nightmare for so many defenders.

I'm sure Willie won't mind me repeating a story he told me not too long ago.
He was playing for Burnley and having played a ball towards another Burnley player he turned to see one of the opposition players down on the ground. Unaware what had happened, he asked Lochhead. "I've ******* nutted him," was the reply from Andy.

Willie gave me and my wife a ground tour. Forever pulling Andy Lochead's leg and vice versa, as we passed along the way.
Lovely man.
Happy Birthday legend.
