Afternoon all,

Heading off for some sun soon and wanted a couple of easy readers for the pool.
Loved the films and both recent series so am looking for recommendations from the long list of books or is it a case of start with number one etc
Any tips would be appreciated!

You can start anywhere in the series but I, personally, would start at the beginning and work through, you do get a sense of character progression that way. Have read them all but the last few where they are co-written with his brother are not as good…

So the ones that have been turned into adaptations are maybe the best target. One Shot, Killing Floor, Bad Luck and Trouble and the new series will be based on The Persuader.

Do yourself a favour and settle down with a good Jane Austen instead. I’d start with Sense and Sensibility.

The audio books are just brilliant. For me it’s a better experience of the Jack Reacher ‘world’, the narrator is perfect.

I'd start at the start and start and work through. They get worse though, particularly after the first dozen or so.

Some are written in the first person, some in the third person. I personally can’t stand first person stories. Spoilt the series for me…🤔😳🥴

The Ben Hope series by Scott Mariani are worth a look. Decent stories easy to read.

I'd start at the beginning as well. I haven't read them in order but think the quality tails off a bit after the first 10 or 12.

I'd recommend the Roy Grace detective novels by Peter James, set in Brighton. Absolutely superb, and recently made into a TV series with John Simm playing Grace.

If you like book series, I would also recommend

DI Banks by Peter Robinson
Rebus

Detective Harry Bosch
Lincoln Lawyer, both by Michael Connolly
Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben

I've just come back from a poolside hol in Portugal where I managed to get through "Die Trying" which is an early book in the Jack Reacher series...absolutely riveting book..im not normally a big reader but i struggled to put that one down...action all the way.
I'd also agree with Fretters re the Roy Grace series (Peter James) I've read a couple of those and again, absorbing reads

I’ve not long since finished the Lincoln Lawyer series. I’m currently reading ‘The Logan McRae series’ by Stuart Macbride. Really enjoyable.

Ive read them all and a new one is due out I think in October.

Ordered mine through the library which I think has saved me a fortune given the number of books in the series.

I think there are a few references across the series but nothing that would not allow you to read randomly. I chose to read in order though.

I can recommend ‘I am Pilgrim’ by Terry Hayes, fantastic read, one of the best books I’ve ever read. Also, not a series, but all the Frederick Forsyth books are tremendous in my opinion. All were very current with the time he wrote them and I always got a sense they were loosely based on true events, his research into the topic was very good. And to go back to your original ask, they are almost all easy reads. Enjoy the holiday.

The Bee Sting by Paul Murray is one of the best written books I have read, thoroughly recommended. About a family living in Ireland from the perspective of each member. Very insightful, moving. funny and a great holiday read.

If you like Jack Reacher have a look at the Mitch Rapp series of books, initially until his passing, by Vince Flynn.

I used to love the Reacher books when I travelled a lot with work, the very best of the trashy action airport thriller genre! You can blaze through one in a few days.

I agree.
Just need to say that since Lee Child’s brother has co written the Reacher books the story has deteriorated.
Certainly the first 12 are a compelling read.
