I’m thinking of going to the Canaries for two weeks in January. Has anyone been and what sort of weather could I expect. I know you cannot guarantee weather, but what was your weather like. Is Tenerife the hotter island? Thank you.

Canaries are usually pleasant even in the height of our winter..usually shirt sleeved weather during the day, but chilly at night..

It’s windy!

I go to Tenerife in December and it’s lovely. Still swim in the sea etc.

Been to both Tenerife and Fuerteventura in Jan both around the 20 degree mark. Fuerteventura quite windy though.

Had 3 weeks in Lanza last 2 februarys...wall to wall sunshine and 24C throughout this year.....poxy last year with half the time spent under some kinda volcanic dust cloud.

Pot luck.

Just on a weeks holiday in Gran Canaria, weather very good and temp around 25/26c.
Been to Tenerife in both Jan and Feb and the weather is still very good with daytime temperatures around 20c plus. Can get a bit cooler at night but a light jumper is more than sufficient.
Went to Lanzarote a few years ago and found it annoyingly windy even in June although the sun is very strong down here.

Been to Lanzarote for my birthday holiday (22nd Jan) and weather has been warm and perfect for a Winter break each time. Probably 70 to 75 degrees (in old money) every day.

As Fatboy says it's pot luck.
Been vids on tiktok over the last couple of months showing cloudy skies, but some days bright sunshine.

Was in Los Cristianos January, very mixed cloudy and sunny.

Been raining in Ibiza lately apparently.

Spent new years eve on the beach out at Fuerta one year. It was sunny but a little chilly from the wind. Definitely better weather than Lancashire

I went to Fuerteventura in March and out of the wind it was very warm. 23+, but feels hotter when you go from the cold of England.

Most hotels, bars etc have high walls/glass partitions to keep the wind off so it’s well set up for it.

I hired a road bike one day and way flying down a volcanic road at 40mph when I turned a corner and a 50mph cross wind hit me. Absolutely **** my pants

That time of year gives you the chance to explore the island, rather than soak up the sun (pleasant but limited for sunbathing. Much better than England though).

Lanzarote, a bit breezy, is quite small so you could easily see all you wanted to in a fortnight, mixed in with appreciating the weather, food, etc., also allows for a days trip across to Fuerteventura.

Tenerife, much bigger and loads more commercial. Only been to the south of the island, but again at that time of the year a good excuse to get out and explore - there's lots more.

Can't really comment on the other islands

Tenerife is the hotter island and not windy. Been lots of times and would highly recommend it.
South of the Island Costa Adeje more touristy but really good. Lots to see and do on the island and a drive up to Mount Teide and the north of the Island well worth a look.
Prices have gone up post Covid but still cheaper for food and drink than Spain.

No riff raff where I stay pal !

Have been to Corralejo in November and March most years and only really experienced disappointing weather twice.

Have been to Lanzarote in March and June, both good weather.

As mentioned above you can experience cloudy weather yet the temperature is usually warm.

Canaries for us is always the go to for winter / spring holidays.

hi spend half my life in tenrife these days in fact over here now .....jan and feb are the 2 x months were if you are going to get worse weather then its those 2 x months ...
However last few years its still been mid 20s during the day and very little rain has fallen , id say its like a good summers day in england in the first quarter , even at night it very rarely falls below 16/17 degress, we have the best climate in the world , never too hot and very rarely falls below 22/23 during the day, only trouble is cd tenerife are worse than the clarets these days!!!

I go to Lanzarote for nearly a month every Christmas/New Year and the weather has been fantastic. Like others have said it can feel chilly at night but that’s probably it’s been so warm during the day. Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else at that time of year. Love Lanzarote

If you go to Tenerife you’ll find the places around the airport such as El Medano and Los Abrigos tend to be a lot breezier ,we go to Golf del Sur just after Christmas and it’s generally around 23’ but I would be a bit dubious about going their between June and Sept as it can be stifling.

We used to go to Adeje no riff raff there , 10 years ago a glass of beer was around 7 euros only tourists were better off Brits and Russians with Villa,cost £90 euros for a game of golf I don’t think many of the UK **** will be spending their dole money there.

I reckon you’ve missed El Medano out if you don’t think it’s windy ,it’s one of the best wind surfing places in the northern hemisphere.

I haven’t been there, although I have been around most of the island including the north and never really experienced much wind.
Only wind was from myself due to over indulging.

I often do November/Jan in Tenerife & the last few years it’s not been much different to the summer months, low to mid 20s although it’s cold at night and the days are shorter.

It has been known to have bad weeks though especially January, but that’s a risk you take. Always plenty of accommodation so I normally wait till a week or 2 before and see the forecasts.

Accommodation may become an issue with the locals wanting to bite the hand that feeds them.

I have a timeshare in January at the Las Rosas complex in Los Gigantes. I have been very lucky and usually see very warm weather. Usually about 26c. However at night it can get a little cold and windy but nothing a nice cardigan or jumper will sort.
