• Padiham on Parade

If you're looking for something to do this weekend then this great event is on in Padiham centre again.

Lots of old military costumes and vehicles from the 40s.

Dancing, stalls etc food drink.

Parade on Sunday with a flyover in the afternoon.

Really good atmosphere at this event.

On a previous PoP thread on here, someone listed a website for all flyovers routes/times type of aircraft etc..

But I don't know at the moment sorry.

Yeah hopefully it brightens up. Plenty of shelter in the town hall, cafes etc..

It's a very good day in the pubs as well for couples etc.. with old fashion singers/artists on all through the day/night.

Padiham has, in the past, been considered as the poor relation to Burnley…. It is considerably smarter, cleaner and well looked after than Burnley. Burnley town centre is an absolute disgrace. Padiham is a pleasure to visit these days.

Just nipped into town and it's already in the swing of things with street artists playing their music.

Seems to be more attractions every year.

Nice to see Veterans and cadets mixing together.

Every time I go to padiham I am mysteriously drawn like a moth to a light to the hardware shop .. I couldn’t actually name another shop there

Burnley town centre has been nicely done up and having just walked through, they've done a nice job with all the flowers etc on display. Superior in every aspect to Padiham.

Just been over for a look. Shame about the weather but it was definitely worth a visit. Great atmosphere and picked up some top bargains at the charity shop

There's a hurricane fuselage parked up at the junction of station road. When the Merlin engine is fired up the whole town shakes, truly awesome....

Yeah really cool although had to move away quick when it fired up as my dog hated it!

Yes, I was aware of that tragedy, but I checked the BBMF website and it suggests planes are airworthy again.

I don’t think he is being offensive to the brave men who died in protecting our shores but merely pointing out that in 1000 years the people of Britain won’t be having a minutes silence in recognition of WW2 in the same way we don’t celebrate how we rid ourselves of the Vikings today who pillaged and murdered our people thousands of years ago

You can’t compare them, though. Padiham is tiny compared to Burnley. It’s literally one street for a town centre.

What I mean is, as the years go on there are very few from that conflict that are still around, at what point do we start showing more representation of more recent conflicts. Most of our veterans are from the Falklands, gulf war etc..

Wouldn't it be more respectful to represent some of those a little bit more?

Fewer and fewer. We are heading this year to the 85th anniversary of the start of the Second World War. We do have people with us who lived through it though and immediate descendants of this involved, myself for one.

I think it’s still relevant, while accepting that remembering other conflicts is equally so, and as I posted above on this thread, my dad would have loved it.

FWIW, I don’t doubt your love of Burnley is superior to mine. I do in fact love Burnley myself, but I’m happy to point out it has more than its fair share of failings, the state of the town centre being one of them. Padiham on the other hand has restored some civic pride in itself, and made a good job of smartening itself up a bit. Well done Padiham I say.

A lighthearted comment that you seem to be doubling down on. Ita nothing to do with my love of Burnley, I just think they work hard on the town centre and it looks quite nice compared to any similar size towns. Padiham just isn't any sort of comparison.

If there's anyone that doesn't have any pride in the town it's the people (as proven in this thread) and the tossers that loiter around in the town centre making people feel uncomfortable.
