He must have something about him.
You don’t get signed for over £7m as an 18 year old if you’re no good.

Praying he gets his chance this year. I want to keep Berge/Cullen but would like to see him feature a lot more.
Think the fans will love him.

The rare cameo that i've seen of him, he looks full of confidence. I was surprised at how little time he got on the pitch.

Some of last season's recruitment prices were not value for money. Massengo was clearly one of them. Time will tell.

We only saw a couple of little cameos last season and he looked good. Obviously we've no idea really on such little game time and I for one would like to see him given a proper chance so we can fairly judge him.

He wasn’t a free transfer. Even though he was out of contract at Bristol City, his age dictated that we had to pay a fee for him. I don’t think it went to a tribunal so we must have agreed a figure with Bristol City.

Massengo has already amassed 100 apps in the Championship and he’s I still only 22. I’d be surprised if we didn’t see anything of him this season. I think he could turn out tk be the natural replacement for Brownhill whenever he leaves

He comes across brilliantly. He seems genuine and unique.
Love his take on the town and the countryside.
His cameos have been decent but not enough to pass a sound judgment, sadly.
But rarely have I wanted a player to come good as much as Han Noah. Let's hope he has a chance and takes it.

Fair point, do recall that. A relatively low fee though, I suspect.
Would love to see a lot more of him this year - will be a real fan favourite I think.

Definitely more bought in to him succeeding than I can remember being about other young lads. His attitude and approach has been absolutely fantastic.
Him and Massara, I’m excited about. If we see them combining at some point this season I’ll be very happy.

This thread is a pretty good indicator of how fans are willing him to succeed after throwing himself in to the town, living in the town and displaying a good attitude after not seeing much playing time (despite doing well in a ligue un the half season prior).

- High energy
- Gets to the ball quickly
- Wins fouls (sometimes through getting to the ball quickly, others through some pirouettes I’d rather not see!)
- Reads the danger well, tracks back
- Involved in the goal, good run
- On one occasion, whips a quick & unexpected ball in which’ll win me over in an instant (love a quick cross)

It seems a strange point to pick on to be honest, but yes.
What you can see from this thread is that the fans, me included, have been massively impressed by his approach and attitude to what must’ve been a tough first year for him. Living locally for a start, being involved in some community events, talking of his love for the town (where this thread started - and yes, accept some of that is PR), his photography of the local area, and his ‘head down, crack on’ attitude… could probably mention more if I thought about it, all of those things go a long way with football fans in general and particularly Burnley fans.
Theres a lot of complaints levelled at our new signings that their attitudes aren’t right or they don’t care or whatever. I disagree with that - Vitinho, Dara, Esteve, Cullen, Koleosho when he played and a few others showed great attitudes, I thought - but I think HNM epitomises a player with a very good attitude and fans recognise that.
If you look at many of the departing players, Charlie most recently, that what fans talk about when they leave. Obviously performances are important, but look through those threads and few are commenting on his great crosses, blocks or goals or whatever - they’re about his attitude, professionalism, service.
The way he’s conducted himself to date is exactly why so many on this thread are looking forward to seeing him more next season and speak so positively about him. I think he’ll get a great reception if he plays more as a result, so he’s given the himself the best chance with the fans without kicking a ball and he’ll likely get more praise than others for good performances and more leeway than others for bad.
I’ve seen him play briefly at Salford and he looked good. The video that I posted is what I imagine seeing though. Defensive minded, combative, high energy, quick to the ball, high work rate. He’ll have to do that in claret and blue of course but again these are traits that I think fans love, even if there’s a bit of technical ability lacking.
Hope that explains my thinking.

Somebody promoting the town and clearly enjoying the local culture is something that will resonate with supporters.
It doesn't provide any clues as to whether he'll be any good for us, but if he is then it will add to his appeal. It's already got many people hoping he succeeds just that little bit more than normal. That's all we're talking about really, an ability to connect with the fans. No more, no less.
There isn't a single Burnley player -at any level- who I wouldn't want to succeed but there are a few I want to succeed just that little bit more.

He's already a fan favourite in some circles because of the work he's done through his social media to promote the town and the beauty of the local area in a way that I've not seen from any Burnley player before.
Hoping he gets some minutes next season to show what he can do.

As someone said earlier he signed for Bristol City for £7.2 million as an 18 year old and was the first player born in the 21st century to play in the Champions League, so he can't be as bad as some people are making out and must have something about him.
As some of you may know I lived in Bristol up until recently and worked in local semi-professional football circles and when i asked about him when he signed, i was told that the fee was approx. £360,000 raising to £660,000 based on meeting certain criteria being met and includes a sell-on.

I think is already fairly popular with the younger part of the fan base. He does a lot on social media presenting the town and local area in a positive light and seems to have really integrated himself well in the community. He also seems to be quite the regular with the extra duties of turning up for the community/charity events and always with a smile on his face.
Obviously if he plays more often and isn't great then that becomes a problem, but I think he has set himself up nicely to become a fan favourite for everyone if he gets game time and does well (fingers crossed)

Having seen him for Bristol a few times, what is great about him is his ability to win second balls and break up play. He's scrappy and high energy. And with the ball his range of passing is decent too. I hope he gets some game time this year

As I happen by chance to know the lady who does his cleaning, (sounds odd, but true!) I can confirm some things. He lives close to the town, he's a really, really nice guy (although rarely in when she's working there) and he suddenly appeared with a protective boot on his foot and leg sometime during last season which aligned with the talk on here that he'd somehow sustained an injury which sidelined him for a while.

He was bought for 7.2 million as an 18 year old but in the last season of his contract at Bristol City he was loaned out to Auxerre.
So, you have to wonder what happened to him.
The quote below is from the Bristol Live and says the following:
Given he was increasingly stationed as a defensive midfielder, Johnson, Dean Holden and then Nigel Pearson required stability rather than a mercurial talent who could waver from being a match-winner to a positional liability.
A very Vincent Kompany signing indeed. And the kind of player I know NewClaret and I agree on may cause us problems next year. Brilliant on his day but a bit of a liability off the ball.
I've cut out the bits that seem pertinent to this thread:
A move within mainland Europe would likely result in a fee of around £260,000 under FIFA regulations, whereas if he was to stay in England, City could receive something more substantial.
Massengo departs Ashton Gate after 110 appearances in all competitions over four seasons, although his final campaign in red was spent mainly in exile or on loan at Auxerre, after he rejected the opportunity to sign a new contract first offered to him in December 2021. His final outing in a City shirt proved to be 65 minutes against Birmingham City at St Andrew's on October 8 in a dismal 3-0 defeat.
He established himself as an immediate fan favourite, particularly among the younger elements of the support, in-part due to his all-action displays in midfield combined with a high level of technical craft but also because of his distinctive hair, personality and the terrace song that soon followed.
At his best, Massengo was an undoubted star, with his performance at Preston North End in January 2022 among the finest individual displays in recent years, however consistency - which, given his age, perhaps shouldn’t be a surprise - was an eternal issue and he never properly progressed from being a raw talent to a more polished and reliable performer.
Given he was increasingly stationed as a defensive midfielder, Johnson, Dean Holden and then Nigel Pearson required stability rather than a mercurial talent who could waver from being a match-winner to a positional liability.

The is, of course, the local Brizzle paper putting a local spin and a positive spin on it. The truth is, the rejected their contract offer which wouldn't have been made if they really didn't want to keep him.

I think the truth is exactly as the article wrote it. He was regarded by a number of managers as talented but ill disciplined and not reliable enough to play but some of the issues could be explained away by age and consequently he was worthy of a contract offer.
He's not alone in the signings we made last year to be described thus he just wasn't given the chance to prove it. And so we on here can say and think what we will.
If Amdouni hadn't played no doubt we would be saying the same about him or if Tresor hadn't started against Chelsea and got his *rse handed to him on a silver platter we would be saying the same about him.
