As the original thread has been locked, here are the results .... In 3rd place with a score of 18.3 is " Jamsey ", 2nd place went to " Gusab " with 16.7, but the winner with a quite outstanding score of 8.9, is " Smidge " !! His predictions were as follows, with actual result in brackets ...

Labour 33.8 ( 31.7 )
Lib/Dem 22.5 ( 23.1 )
Con 20.1 ( 20.3 )
Reform 17.5 ( 19.5 )
Green 2.2 ( 3.8 )
Ind's 3.9 ( 1.5 )

" Smidge ", when you've finished fending off job offers from Ipsos/Mori and YouGov, could you let me know to which Charity I should forward your winner's prize of Β£25 ?

Can posters please refrain from posting Political Comments on this thread. Thank you ...

Thanks for the recommendation but I am happily retired
I'm not used to winning anything but it was interesting to see how it panned out
I would be quite happy to leave the charity choice to you if you have a preferred one or to cancer research
Thanks a lot

After the all of the German fowling in the first half I’d like to see the Spanish win now.

Good choice of charity too so kudos.

It's a very interesting thread and of course one must refrain from talking about politics. As my own father was a working class man and we never had Sky TV (not until it started showing football) I understand entirely how smidge must be feeling right now.

And I want to be very clear and frank when I say this, and I couldn't be clearer in what I say. Well done smidge and good choice of charity.

Turnout in Burnley was 53.1%, the lowest ever recorded .... fifty years ago, both the February & October General Elections were at 79.7% !! Not good for our democracy ...

Many Burnley residents said they wouldn't bother voting this time. (I was canvassing and got told this by many). It seems they kept to their word.

Never saw any of the eight candidates on the doorstep.
The only politician I've seen in the past six weeks was Gordon Birtwistle in the town centre each Saturday morning as he does on a regular basis throughout the year.

Whatever happened to the vans with loudspeakers on them driving around town, "On polling day vote for Dan Jones your Labour candidate"?

That's shameful IMHO, as my late father in law said men fought and died in the trenches for your right to vote, ok it a choice and perhaps the apathetic will get everything they want and need by whichever government is in power, however that attitude opens up a path for extreme parties as witnessed in Blackburn.

What if you don’t like any of them. Do you just vote for the lesser of 5 evils?

If you cannot find a party that is extreme left, extreme right, green, centrist, right of centre, left of centre ,independent and the novelty bin wearing candidates to vote gor and uou cannot be @rsed to perhaps stand yourself as an independent then so be it.

It means so much .

Hi MikeS. Not sure where you live but I was one of several people out canvassing late afternoons and into the evenings for over 3 weeks. (People at work earlier in the day). Not a Labour, nor Conservative supporter but for Gordon Birtwistle. Sadly he came second,

This is the problem with politics. I want to vote for a person who will represent me, not a β€˜party’

Lots of reasons for people not voting. Apathy is still number 1, but people also see it as same as spoiling ballot when "none of the above" is the answer. I happen to think not voting is more powerful than spoiling ballot. 53% turnout is not a ringing endorsement of the winner and doesn't go unnoticed. I'll have to Google what happened in Blackburn..
