Club Captain
With Cork leaving who will be the new club captain?
I know he didn’t play much in the last 18months and we have had a couple wear the armband
But a new manager might bring new ideas so who gets the armband under Parker?
For me it’s Berge let’s build around him (if we keep him) or Cullen
Thoughts??

Re: Club Captain
Berge or Cullen for me but also a big shout out for Esteve also
Re: Club Captain
I think it’ll be Cullen or Brownhill. Berge doesn’t come across as the Captain type.

Re: Club Captain
Club captain I always thought was a bit of a ceremonial role….
It’s a team captain we need. A leader of men. Someone who has the respect of the players and who leads by example every time he crosses that white line. I don’t know who that is, hopefully Parker will have that sussed early.

Re: Club Captain
O Shea for me-the only one I saw last season talking and trying to organise. We appear to have a passive set of players

Club captain for the season JBG
Team captain on the pitch needs to be a planned ever present with good verbal skills - O’Shea would be my choice over Cullen or Berge

Re: Club Captain
Although he wore the armband when he played, I don't think he was actually club captain, more the senior player in the leadership group which included Brownhill and Cullen too. Man City don't have a club captain either, it's a Pep thing.ayrshireclaret83 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 10:33 pmWith Cork leaving who will be the new club captain?

A club captain can often seem an unlikely one for us as fans but it is someone who leads off the field every bit as much as on it, in fact probably more so.

Re: Club Captain
A club captain organises players to go to hospitals/sponsors dos etc..
Player ticket allocations.
Player fines between themselves.
Not sure they're needed as much these days as the players have dedicated staff looking after them.

It's hard to know because we can't fully understand the dressing room politics, but Cullen has always struck me as captain material. He leads by example with his feet alone, but you often do see him talking to others through games and he speaks articulately and professionally when you see him interviewed.

Re: Club Captain
Captaincy requires leadership.
We don't have anyone in the clubhouse who is a leader.
I hope we buy someone, with experience, who fits the bill. It was our biggest problem last season imo.

Re: Club Captain
I don't think this is even a discussion, it will be Cullen.
Re: Club Captain
Of our current players i'd say O Shea or Cullen. Brownhill never struck me as the captain type, and he may be off in 12 months anyway(or sooner).
Re: Club Captain
The model nowadays seems to be a leadership team style affair with a number of senior players involved in trying to impress the culture and enforce the standards on the rest of the group.
You would imagine JBG, O'Shea, Brownhill, Cullen, JRod and Berge would be involved in that kind of set up
