Two new features today on UTC.

1. A list of players who have made 200 or more league appearances for us (currently 79 players).
2. A list of players who have scored 40 or more league goals for us (currently 41 players).

But who will be joining list 1 soon?

You can’t imagine the top 5 of either list ever changing now.

Even players like Duff and Mee who were with the club a decade+ are a season or mores worth of games off the top 5.

Shows how much the game has changed. There are players in that top group who were playing when I first went to Burnley - players such as Adamson, Cummings, Miller, Angus were one club men. Alan Stevenson was signed in 1972 and was with us for over ten years so his 438 is remarkable really.

Payton is the highest from the modern era in the goalscorers list.

Great stuff CT. Typo on Duff as total doesnt add up I think he had far more subs appearances.

Thanks and corrected, the sub appearances was correct, it was the starts. I'd got the right numbers but not necessarily in the right order.

Another fan of the great two comedians I take it.
Going down the goal scores I noticed Austin netted 41 goals in about 18 months and he did his shoulder twice I think. I then looked at his appearances 69+13 I doubt we will see a strike rate like that too often by any player for the clarets.

Beel and Ray Pointer bettered it I see. Beel's stats were phenomenal and I think when the offside law was far stricter. Wasn't it two players + keeper of hive I dreamt that?

Yes, they brought a lot of sunshine.

Austin's strike rate as good as anything in the modern era. Whatever level he played, he scored goals, but it seemed to come to an early end, presumably because of the chronic knee problem that stopped his move to Hull.

Irvine's is the one for me. 124+2 appearances with 78 goals. He was just 23 when he suffered that broken leg at Everton. Hard to believe how many goals he might have scored if he'd remained fully fit and had a full career.

Sadly for me Willie played whilst i was away at Uni and working in Newcastle which made seeing the Clarets difficult so rarely saw the great man play.

A phenomenal goals to games ratio for Willie. A few years ago I asked Darren what a player like his Dad would be worth in the modern era, his response was "put it this way, I don't think I would have seen the inside of a factory".

CT, I think the dates for Billy Hamilton on appearances needs some attention.

Unbelievable goal scorer the likes of which I’ve not come close to seeing again at Burnley. He’d be worth a staggering amount now.

Agreed. Automatic choice in any Best Burnley XI since I started watching in 1963. You're right about that dirty b*stard Morrissey - & he should have been joined in clink 7 years later by Norman Hunter for what he did to Frank Casper.
