A little unkind that the report fails to mention the Burnley scorer.
It was captain Tommy Boyle after 65 minutes from the penalty spot. After that we were in complete control until the game descended into a massive brawl some 15 minutes from time. Even then we had an excellent chance to win the game but missed a good opportunity with 2 minutes remaining.

It was an interesting trip. The Burnley party left Bank Top Station at 12.35 on 15th May and arrived back at 3.30 on 1st June. They stayed at the Hotel Bauer in Berlin & the Hotel Royal in Budapest. The directors and players were distinctly unimpressed by the 'rough play' they encountered throughout, particularly in Hungary, and apparently only the 2 keepers on the tour- Dawson & Sewell - escaped some sort of injury.

Just an observation from the somewhat misleading photographs in that Scottish article.
We were told by Ferencvaros officials to play in the blue-and-white striped shirts of their local rivals and the new League Champions MTK Hungaria FC. Celtic were told to play in the shirts of home club Ferencvaros but it looks from the photos that Celtic "politely" declined.

Trainer Ernie Edwards summed up the mood in an interview....."I would sooner have gone through half a League season than play in those conditions. There were no facilities for washing the players' kit or drying them and twice I had to go on the roof of the hotel to get them dried.
Incidentally the game is extensively covered in Mike Smith (MikeS on here) superb book......"Tommy Boyle - Broken Hero."

Certainly none that I'm aware of.......Unless, of course someone tells us differently. Fast forward to 1978/79 season and the Quarter-Final of the Anglo-Scottish Cup first leg and we beat Celtic at home 1-0 with, who else, but Steve Kindon the scorer.SlidingTackle wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 7:38 pmEnjoyed that.

Second leg, two weeks later, we go to Scotland and complete the job with a 2-1 win, with Kindon (yet again) one of our scorers.

In addition to the games already mentioned we have played Celtic in friendlies on the following occasions;
20/4/1889 (Home) Lost 1-3
31/12/1895 (Away) Won 2-0
28/4/1896 (Away) Lost 1-2
20/9/1921 (Home) Won 3-0
Incidentally Burnley's first ever Scottish opponents were Cowlairs on New Year's Day 1885, the first of 3 successive games against Scottish opponents on the Turf on 3 consecutive days.

The 1921 game was played on a Tuesday afternoon. 2 goals from Joe Anderson & 1 from Walt Weaver.

Fair play, he now reluctanctly accepts.
Following weekend, apparently, we beat Bradford City on the Turf 4-0, with the great man Tommy Boyle, yet again, one of the scorers.
