As the title suggests it's the Colne Grand Prix tonight, a circuit race around Colne Town Centre. It causes massive congestion in an already traffic heavy town but it is a great spectacle.

A few top cyclists have begun their successful careers at this very level including Adam and Simon Yates who have both been on the podium at Colne.

It is the 20th anniversary of the event, so it's clearly popular.

Events begin at 17:45 with a youth race followed by at 18:25 Sprint for Success race.

The main events are as follows;

19:20 Women's Elite Race

20:20 Men's Elite Race

It's a right pain in the arse total gridlock when I was trying to get home from work......why not hold it at the weekend

I cringe having to drive through Colne with all the pot holes in the road, let alone ride a bike at high speed. Just hope there no cyclists injured caused by the terrible road conditions, seems totally impractical to me.

Just got home after watching all the races..Absolutely brilliant and well worth closing Colne centre off.Yes,it does cause problems but people know in advance and there are plenty of ways to get round Colne so stop feckin moaning.

Agreed - my son and I enjoyed cheering the girls and boys on at some speed

Closing a congested town centre off during the week during the evening rush hour is weird. I thought the aim of the councils and government was to reduce carbon emissions due to traffic, not increase them.

Colne town centre does effectively have a bypass, and the road closures didn't affect that main route connecting the M65 with Skipton and Keighley.

There are plenty of back roads connecting every one of these main routes with an eventual destination, and if people are unable to use their head and would rather just create a traffic jam than consider one of the many alternative routes then more fool them.

It's been running for 20 years. We ought to have got used to it by now!

Colne main street is closed a lot. Carnival in June, Soap Box racing in June, bikes in July, Blues in August, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Remembrance Sunday, various food fairs, parties for any other excuse - we get used to it. There's a lot happening.

One of the aims of the town council and more lately the BID is to bring people into the town centre. Colne should be celebrated for the events it puts on for the community - far better than local town smaller and bigger.

I travelled over from Burnley, like I do for many of their events, which attract lots of families.

They replaced all the cars going through the town centre with bikes. That's pretty eco friendly.

North Valley was gridlocked last night when I went to Sainsbury's. I'm not a cycling fan, but don't see the fuss. All the events that are around these days are worth the inconvenience. Bit of an irony that we have Burnley fans complaining. I wonder how many are part of the problem with the match day traffic congestion after home games?

Let’s be honest, it hasn’t needed to be a match day to cause traffic congestion in Burnley for the last 18months

Petrol station and maybe a Hotel.Think it's something to do with the Issa brothers,but I believe they have fallen out.

Planning permission was granted on appeal despite a whole host of people and the council rejecting it, and the Burnley Express story from the time saying:

The scheme will now see would see the 8.6 acre site developed for a petrol station, car wash, convenience store, drive-thru coffee unit and two industrial units which will create 120 jobs.
