No threads on this festival of sport, unless I missed it?
Goes without saying, more important than football!😂

Anyone going to be following loads of sports they would not normally bother with?
I am very out of touch but do we have any strong chances in the Track and Field, which are my favourites?
I believe we have a strong chance in the Men’s 1500m
As long as the Dutch volleyball guy breaks his leg in his first match.

More important than football! It’s sports day for adults.

Who can run the fastest? Who can jump the furthest? Who cares?

Will be watching;

Especially Cycling, athletics and Swimming.

Highly recommend the Netflix documentary, ‘SPRINT’ for those wanting an insight into the top performers in the 100 and 200m

Wonder if Andy Murrays mum is having a strop at her boy today.

I hope the self indulgent tour hasn't stopped someone else going to the Olympics

I watched a fair few rugby (men's) sevens on TV yesterday and will watch tonight's QFs - even though GB failed to qualify.
Argentina v France will be one where the French crowd can boo the Argentinians following the infamous song the Argies sang after their Copa America footy win.
GB are in the women's 7s starting Sunday and should do well if their strength at the XV level is indicative, Ill watch that.

I used to be glued to the track and field events (Olympics, Europeans etc) in the days of Coe, Cram, Daley Thompson etc but all the doping incidents (not suggesting applicable to GB) put me off T&F; doubt Ill watch any of that at these games,

I might relive my youth and watch the break dancing and BMX'ing :D apart from those I can't think of any event or individual I feel I have to watch

I genuinely can't get excited about this. I think all my youthful enthusiasm was extinguished with all the doping scandals and the Eastern nations (Think before the Berlin wall came down) just using it as a way to try and appear superior. Might watch the under water, synchronised basket weaving if there is no paint to watch dry. The latest scandal about equestrian sports just sums up the whole, sorry, murky business.

I'm going on Saturday for a few nights- Monday night at the Stade de France for the 800m womens final which we have a good chance in. I cant believe how many tickets are still available across all events to be honest. Hope its not going to be half full!

Bloody hell, I can’t believe the lack of interest, or supposed lack of interest.
British sport is full of Olympic legends and we have the chance to witness more. What is wrong with you people?

I reckon if Trolling, Belittling, Moaning, Arguing that black is white, etc were Olympic sports, there would be a few gold medalists on Up The Clarets.....though I suspect that several would then fail the dope testing

Yes, the men's competition starts tomorrow. There is women's as well but you probably aren't interested in that.

Has anybody got a link to a page that details not just what events are on what day, but what channel each event is going to be on?

I don't currently have Discovery+ or Eurosport, so would be nice to see what events will and won't be shown live on BBC 1 or 2.

I’m not interested in most of it, it’s kind of sports for people who don’t really like sport.

But I know I’ll end up watching an hour or two of gymnastics, have my mind completely blown at how amazing they are, then never watch a minute of it again for 4 years.

" Eurovision " style opening ceremony in torrential rain, the good Lord trying to cleanse the River Seine of it's pollution I suspect ...

The highlight for me was the Olympic Flag being hoisted the wrong way up !!

Opening ceremonies are always a little bit weird….. don’t know why people can’t just enjoy them for what they are.

I’ve just watched some of the hockey and enjoyed it. Badminton now - again, very good.

I love the variety of sports and all you have to do is appreciate the exceptional skill level and complete dedication that these athletes have given to get to this point.

I still very much enjoy watching the Olympics!

Can never understand why sports like golf and tennis are an Olympic sport when a gold medal won't even come close to winning the Masters in golf, or at Wimbledon in the tennis.

In other events people remember the names of Chris Hoy and others but no one will remember who won gold in the golf in a couple of years.

Can sort of see where you're coming from. But Andy Murray rates his Olympics succes as his biggest, or at least one of his biggest, achievements. Nadal prioritised the Olympics over Wimbledon.

Got the Women's synchronised 3m springboard on - Great Britain may grab a Bronze after a balls-up by Australia.

Yep. GBR win their first medal.

GB's first medal. Bronze for the womens syncronised diving. The Aussies should have got bronze but made a total cock up of their last dive. All they hsd to do was get a very average score for their last dive, but one of the girls more or less slipped off the board and fell in the pool about two seconds before her partner. I had to smile.

Murray cites his Olympic gold as one his great achievements and the catalyst to going on to win Slams. It’s notable that he was sufficiently engaged in the tournament to win gold again in Rio

Perhaps they should have borrowed some sandpaper from David Warner to put on the board .... 8-)

Just been watching a recording of the opening ceremony, bizarre, boring and a tedious insult to Christianity to appease the bedwetting, sniggering, oh so intellectual cowards that infest our once great institutions.

Opening ceremony was a bit weird but nobody really cares about opening ceremonies.

Celine Dion belting out Edith Piaf in front of the Eiffel Tower was pretty special though.
