Girondins de Bordeaux

Sadly following relegation to the third tier of French football and after years of mismanagement have not renewed their professional licence. It looks like they have folded. Very sad news for their fans, players like players like Kounde and Tchouameni were playing for them not too long ago.

Terrible news.
Once a very good side competing in Europe.
Some great players in the 80s.
Some quality kits, too.

They last won league 1 in 2008-09.
Very sad.
Zidane played for them before Juventus.
Meanwhile money gets pumped into PSG..

It's shocking what has happened there but it all falls on owner Gérard Lopez.

As much as I don't have too much time for Stan Collymore, he tweeted yesterday: "Today, one of France's biggest clubs have effectively folded due to people who come into a sport of which they know nothing, give jobs to people who know nothing and listen to people who don't understand the volatility of professional football."

He said of Lopez: "It didn't matter that Lopez couldn't be arsed with a reply, he has the stain of running a great club into the dust. It's the fact that many people reached out to offer help and he didn't rake it from anyone, and that's his biggest crime."

Once a great club, had some great players including, as superdimitri has posted, Zidane, and you can add Papin, Tigana, Lizarazu to that list.

Yes, shocking.

Some of that first paragraph is a little too close to our own situation for comfort ….

Sad news. Always been one of the bigger classic French clubs to me. A real shame for their fan base. No fans deserve to see their club mismanaged into oblivion.

This is a shocking state of affairs. It's a warning of what can happen to mismanaged clubs.

Now why does that sound a familiar scenario.......
