Just come across this online and thought it was a very interesting read; how accurate it is I don't know, but sources seem to be mainly from Liverpool.

That's just a bit special, thanks for posting.
David Taylor didn't score many goals for us, just five in total I think, but he will have savoured that winner against Liverpool in the first game of the tour.
Great pic of the team line-up prior to the game. What a unit big Joe Anderson was at centre-forward, no Tommy Boyle on the photo as he missed the tour due to a family bereavement.
Just a superb link with so much detail previously unknown.

Great stuff I used to have the programme for the Venice game in Padova but was never sure of the other games and if programmed were issued. All were rare if issued

Huge thanks to the OP for sharing this article. I put many hours into these blog posts without really knowing if anyone will read them, so it’s great to know that it is being enjoyed!
And to confirm, the content was researched using cuttings from the British Newspaper Archive and La Stampa (an Italian equivalent). Have now added a reference to this at the foot of the article
Up The Clarets!
If anyo

Hi Calcioengland. First of all many thanks for the research and the article that the OP shared. It seems that you do quite a lot of research. Some months ago I was researching the participation of a Burnley youth team in a tournament in Germany in 1965. One of the group matches was against Juventus. I have the match results below but not all the scorers and no line ups. Not sure if you can access Italian sources for details of the match against Juve at least so that I can fit another piece of the jigsaw. Any Uptheclarets posters who can contribute would be welcome as well.
Youth Tournament in Germany 1965
Group 1
12/06/1965 Burnley v Ajax Amsterdam played in the Jahn Stadium, Marl. Won 2-1.
12/06/1965 Select XI Marl v Juventus Drew 2-2
15/06/1965 Burnley v Select XI of Marl Won 8-0 (Blant 3).
16/06/1965 Burnley v Juventus Won 1-0 (Blant – 70 minutes).
Group 2
13/06/1965 Red Star Belgrade v VFL Bochum 4-2 Stadion an der Castroper Straße
13/06/1965 Real Madrid v Racing Club de Paris 4-0 Stadion an der Castroper Straße
15/06/1965 Real Madrid v Red Star Belgrade played in Marl 0-0
Final
19/06/1965 Burnley v Red Star Belgrade played in the Jahn Stadium, Marl.. Drew 2-2.
Many thanks to anyone who can add info!

I’ve taken a look in the newspaper archive of one of the Turin papers (La Stampa) but nothing in there I’m afraid. The other source I would go to is MyJuve.it; that has a pretty complete historical record for senior and unofficial games but currently seems to be offline.

Brilliant read, some fascinating stories. I can't help comparing it to a tour by pampered modern footballers. Wishing a fishing rod was brought, deflating the spare ball as a souvenir, back on playing after dislocating an elbow, the rise of fascism in the background brought a real menace to the story as well.
