We are looking to stay overnight in Rome and wonder if anyone could give advice /recommendation.

We need a hotel close to Termini station, but far enough away from the dodgy area. Cheers

Try putting 'Rome Termini' into Booking.com and it will give you quite a few options.

We have stayed in that area 3 times and transport wise its an excellent place to stay. The termini station building is huge and there is a large food and drink area in there which is good value for money by Rome standards.

You can get trains to and from all over Italy as well as transport to the airports.

We stayed in the hotel Colosseum which was around a 10 minutes walk away.Would definitely recommend it and would stay in again if/when we return

Went to Rome with my family (Mon-Fri) and booked accomodation on line-it was supposed 3 star. When we got there it was horrendous.It would not have met fire regulations in this country. I paid for one night but did not stay. We were lucky to find two rooms available in the Miami Hotel which is in the more historic part of the city and close to some fantastic Italian restaurants.It was a lovely hotel to stay at.Rome is a very small city and you are never far from anywhere. My advise is to be careful on the hotel you choose and go on a referral, as many of the smaller budget hotels are very poor.Enjoy your break

If travelling with kids, beware the age limit for a child ticket on the airport shuttle train differs from every other train in Italy.

An expensive honest mistake. Tourist tax I assume.

Interestingly, a local taxi driver told us that around the station was the roughest place in Rome and somewhere to be avoided. My Italian isn't great but he appeared to be referring to 'Gypsy children pickpockets' amongst other things. I wouldn't express an opinion as I didn't go there.

Lot of London train stations have very nice areas surrounding them (albeit some didn't historically i.e. Kings Cross etc)

I'm going to Rome later this year staying around the Pantheon area. Missus have booked it all and I trust her judgement so hopefully it's decent area

Some really good (and not overly expensive) food places around there.

I went to watch Lazio under Sven Goran Erickson and stayed need Rome termini and it was very rough....!

But that was when dinosaurs walked the earth so it might have got better since then...!

We have stayed 3 times over the last 8 years within a few minutes walk of Termini station and not encountered any problems at all, never, ever felt intimidated by the area.

My wife would never have considered going back to stay in that area if she hadn't felt safe there.
The transport links there are great for getting around the city.

Me and Mrs Aclaret visited Rome around 15 years ago, Airport Shuttle dropped us at the Train Station, then had to make our way to our hotel, about a 5 minute walk.
Had the misfortune of bumping into a group of "gypsy" women who liked the look of our Suitcase, ended up in a tug of war with the case that I just about won.
It was a dodgy area back then, hope it's improved now.

mercure roma centro collesium.....its 5 mins to collesium , area very safe to walk around and has a rooftop bar and swimming pool .....we have stayed there on all 3 times we have visited rome , not sure if theres a minimum number of nights as we have always been for 4

There’s a Sonder there which we considered planning our Italian trip. Didn’t book Rome in the end but have stayed in a couple of Sonders and they are pretty decent hotels.

10 minute walk from the termini, straight down via Nazionale. I'd happily stop there again.

Augusta Lucilla Palace was where we stayed for 3 nights and it was literally 5 min walk from the station. Area felt safe and the hotel was a lot better than it looked. Would highly recommend. We went in 2018 so may have changed a bit but was really good back then.

We were in Rome a couple of weeks ago for 4 nights, including seeing Coldplay at the Stadio Olimpico.

Both times we've been to Rome (12 years apart) we've stayed at the IQ Hotel Roma, which I'd strongly recommend. It's about 5-10 minutes from the Termini and next to the Opera House. It's well-located just off Via Nazionale, and a short walk from the Repubblica Metro station. Modern, contemporary hotel, great staff, and an excellent buffet breakfast with the widest choice of food and drink you could imagine. Also ranked #8 on Trip Advisor.

Really easy getting the Leonardo Express from the airport - direct to Termini with no stops - trains every 15 minutes and only EUR 14 per person one-way.

Other family members have also stayed at the IQ on our recommendation, and they offer a 10% discount for returning customers who book direct with them rather than through booking sites.
