Morning all.

Just a quick question, does anyone know if the hall and all the facilities are back open at Gawthorpe? The last time we visited everything was closed.

According to their website, they are open 12pm-5pm Weds-Sunday

There were two ladies coming out of the hall the other night around 5. Probably locking up for the night.

Amazingly, despite all my visits down there for games, I’ve never been in Gawthorpe Hall.

I've never been in but I certainly enjoy walking around the grounds and woods.

When I go to youth games, I always get off the bus at Milton Street and walk down the drive.

But around 18 months ago I walked it down there and found a path from close to All Saints Church (across from the George IV) which took me down to the hall.

If you walk down there, about halfway down via right towards the fishing lodge on the path, it takes you towards the hall.
As the trees open up you get the best view of the hall.

They do a fantastic Christmas event,always take the grandchildren, also quite a few events through the year that are worth attending. A real jewel of a place for Burnley and Padiham.

I'll take a look at that and I'll try to get in the hall one day too.

I hadn't been until last Christmas and I agree that it is worth a visit. The Christmas opening itself was good and the guides are informative. It was blooming freezing though.

Gawthorpe Hall contains lots of links to real English history, from the Witch trials of 1612, through the English Civil War, to one of the founders of English education for the masses, and the Lady who brought the Girl Guides to Lancashire.

When I was a young teenager(now75)myself and 2 mates went to an open training session at Gawthorpe.We got off the bus and we were walking down the drive.A car pulled up and a Geordie voice said get in lads,which we did.It was Harry Potts,he asked us who we played for and a few other questions.Sadly didnt get a contract as I musnt have stood out in the hundred a side game.

Charlotte Bronte visited the Hall at least twice, but in January 1855 she caught a chill walking in the grounds, never recovered and sadly passed away in the March.

Shuttleworth lace is my memory of a distant visit to Gawthorpe Hall.

looking at my family tree one of my ancestors was a shuttleworth but probably not one of the posh ones.

and the precursor to gawthorpe hall was a pele tower but probably not one of the football ones.

Absolutely. Wonderful place.
And Towneley Hall is excellent as well (unfortunately it's shut at the moment for repairs and
refurbishment) but just a lovely place like Gawthorpe.

We forget what treasures we have literally, as said, on our own doorstep.

Great place to visit with some good walks around the grounds. Used to live relatively close to the Hall so it was a regular place to go. Burnley is very lucky to have both Gawthorpe and Towneley Hall…the more visitors there are, the better!
