I'd hate for that to come back and bite us, I have a feeling we'll likely need VAR against a physical Luton team :? :D

Didn’t do us any good last time we played them

Thank goodness Ward is only 4th official.

A truly dreadful referee.

It's not ideal to start with an alehouse brawler team but I am confident our class will tell.Just hope the ref actually turns up and clamps down on Lutons rough house play.

Is this the Luton who picked up less yellow cards than us last season and didn't have a single player sent off, the only Premier League club with a zero in the red card column?

It's a perception we used to get thrown at us in the Dyche days and during that incredible run of no red cards. The dirty team tag.
We should know better to be doing it ourselves.

Don’t let facts spoil a good story!

We'll be re-visiting a few of those this season.

Ward was a Premier League assistant referee at one time and was involved in an incident at Chelsea. Right on half time he flagged a Crespo goal offside which led to him getting some abuse from Chelsea players, led by Crespo.

The players went in at half time, saw the replay and realised that the offside flag was correct. When they came out for the second half, Crespo went straight to him and apologised.

The refs were terrified of disciplining them 😁.
Didn't know that stat, they played a fast high tempo game with some really physical players that got them the undeserved reputation, wish we'd have had their discipline.

Discipline - exactly what we lacked unfortunately.

Fair play to Crespo and it should happen more often.

All officials get things right at times CT, and if players have abused the guy then it's right they should aplogise when the evidence supports the official. I've seen Mr Ward a good few times and he would be very near the bottom of my Rate the Ref table.
