A new book has just been published called Tinpot which looks at competitions that are very much under the radar when looking at
the history of a club. I am just about to order it on Amazon and hope that it will cover Burnley's exploits in the Anglo-Scottish Cup and
Texaco Cup in the 1970s.

You would think the Texaco/Anglo Scottish Cup would be included - it lasted for a decade but is now long gone.

Watney Cup?
That only run for four pre-seasons - that has to be included

The Anglo Scottish final at Oldham in 1978 - two up in a minute - will always live on in my memory. Who on here was there on that freezing open end? We had an enormous following.

I was there.
There were many 'man-made' holes in the fencing too.

I remember or think I remember having to skive off school in the afternoon when we played Norwich City around 1974/75 It was a weekday afternoon 2pm or 3pm kick off.
Am I correct Tony or am I having another senior moment?

November 1973, I had to miss it because I couldn't get out of work. Less than 5,000 there.

Did Peter Noble score a hatrick in that game or am I getting mixed up with another match against Norwich?

Won 2-1, goals from James & Noble

Noble scored all four against them in a 4-4 draw in the league two seasons later.

One competition I used to love watching as a kid was the 6 a side tournament in the 80s/90s that involved first division clubs played in indoor arenas on a midweek evening. A little bit like the ‘Masters’ but instead of veterans the current professionals would play. Mind boggling in this day and age. I think it used to be shown on Sportsnight. My dad would tape it and I’d watch it in the morning before going to primary school at St Mary’s.

With all due respect, mikeS, I think the Central League was something else.

I think the list here is of short-lived cups.

Oh i don't know, didn't we beat them lot down the road in this in 1987? Comstive and Britton the scorers.

My first visit to BollEwood was in the final of this 1985, lost 1-0 to a goal from Simon Gurrrrrnnneerrrrrr. I went on the train to this game, got stopped in the tunnel before Blackburn Central and disembarked and made our way into the town centre. Got rounded up eventually and missed the kick off. Lively after the game getting bricked on Mill Hill station waiting for the train back.

I thought that was a league cup game,it was played in the afternoon due to the power strikes at the time

No, the Texaco Cup game was played on Tuesday 27th November and the league game on Saturday 8th December. We then went to Norwich for the TC second leg on Wed 12th December but that was played at night with an amazing finish to the second leg.
