What are your favourite walls?

I’m looking at going away for the weekend in October with the wife and we usually go to the dales and do a nice long walk, so looking for some inspiration.

Locally you cannot go wrong with the Malham circular taking in Janet’s foss, Gordale scar, the tarn and then the cove.

I’ve done a lot of nice fell runs and walks in the lakes. I like anything around the Langdale valley as it tends to avoid the crowds.

I’m thinking of going Northumberland as I have only been up there once before and it was with the kids.

What are your favourite walls? Hard to say about my Fav walls but i do have 4 of them at home

If you are thinking of going up northumberland you won't be far away from wallsend & you can follow the course to bowness-on-solway.

loved walking around Buttermere lake and even quieter Ennerdale lake where my family lived..

The Three Rivers walk is a very nice one starting from Hurst Green .

North from Austwick-Crummack-Long Scar-Sulber Gate-Sulber Nick-Wharfe-Austwick. My brother took me this route years ago. Superb. Pub to finish!

Going up to Masham today for the weekend……………a couple of fab and relatively easy walks from the town square, along the river and with the weather set to be good should be wonderful………..including some time at The Black Sheep & Theakston Breweries to finish both walks!!!

Another vote for the walk around Buttermere in the Lake District. Superb walk at any time of the year. After the walk, something to eat at the Bridge in Buttermere village.

2 day stroll with my labrador around the Cornish Coast from St Ives round to Penzance, pitching the tent out on the cliffs near Botallack for the night.

Housteads Fort to Sycamore Gap is a great walk in Northumberland. Go a short distance past the gap and take in Milecastle 39. The Milecastle pub is close by and a good spot for refreshments before you set off back.

Loads of walks around the coast too. I highly recommend taking in the little known rumbling kern beach. Lots of walks around there too.

Nice walking to Holy Island if you can time the tide too. Be sure to give yourselves at least a couple of hours to explore the island too.

Dovedale, over the stepping stones. A lovely circular walk with the dog parking up near The Old Dog pub on the border of Ashbourne.

Circ, Bridge, New Brew'm ,Spoons, Dyche, Miners.
After that Nick of Pendle to big end, drop down into Barley.

Also one of my favourites.

Family:Malham. Through the garlic scented woods to Janets Foss, Gordale Scar, Malham Tarn and Malham Cove. Most prefer the reverse route.

Average hill walkers: Buttermere. Along the lake then climb up to Red Pike, great views of Ennerdale, along the ridge to High Stile then drop back off at the pass before the Haystacks climb.

Tough Hill walkers: Scafell Pike and Scafell. Wasdale Head up under Great Gable to Styhead, options of route to Scafell Pike then down to Mickeldore, climb Lords Rake and on to Scafell. Easy descent back to Wasdale.
Quick research tells me that Lords Rake was in a bad condition and not recommended. Might be worth up to date research before heading off.

I love hiking, often go out with my spaniel on my own if no friends are available. Did this walk fairly recently and it thought it was brilliant, mid week on a bright day and no one else was on the tops at all the reflections on the lakes, the woods, a decent pull up Red Pike and great views. Set off early from Burnley, catch the sunrise, down as people start their walks and back for the school run

Langdale for sunrise is relatively easy from Burnley, quick stomp to sit and watch the colours from Pavey Ark.

Not difficult but locally I like Jack Bridge > Heptonstall > Blue Pig at Hard castle craggs > Hebden Bridge > train home. Refreshments available at each stop, lots of refreshment available in Hebden
Sure we've had a good thread on this before if anyone can find it.

Did part of the Cumbrian Way recently down the Langdale Valley a few weeks ago with my son, quite flat all the way though. Nice day, alongside the river, to Dungeon Ghyll, also did walk from the Britania Inn over the tops down into Grasmere. Super views on the tops, plus pork pie, and a cup of tea was very good taking in the views. Also did a great walk from Victoria Park last week to Camden Lock Market along the Regents Canal towpath mostly. Stopped at City Road Basin for coffee and generally watching the world go by, very contrasting walk from the Lake District, but equally enjoyable from different aspects.

I'm not much of a walker, however I do enjoy the short stroll from the settee to the fridge to get a beer

Not a particular walk here but what me and Mrs Notts did change after lockdown is we generally just walk from our house now rather than drive to a lake or park.

Even in the People’s Republic of South Yorkshire there’s some lovely places and paths just 10 minutes from your front door.

As mentioned above a walk around buttermere is excellent, I also like latrigg near Keswick, it's more of a hill but considered not too challenging by Mr Wainwright and has ample parking in Keswick, great views of the Skiddaw range.

The Wharfedale 3 peaks is a nice challenging route. Not as long as the Yorkshire 3 peaks but a lot rougher and a lot less busy.

I’ve walked it and ran it. I won and broke the course record for the race a couple of years ago, although my record was broken this year.
Starting in Kettlewell it takes in Birks fell, Buckden pike, and great Whernside

The Fellsman hike is a nice route, although the hardest race I’ve ran

It takes in Ingleborough, Whernside, gragareth, Green hill, Great Coum, Blea moor, Great Knoutbury hill, Dodd fell hill, Buckden pike, and great whernside…….. and a load of others I’ve forgot

I often regret walking upto the singing ring tree from Towneley/Walk Mill, there's section from Bacup Road that is a real pull

I managed it during lockdown one day. I suppose once you've got to the junction with Woodplumpton Road, it's steep hills and dales then, but that first pull for me now is so, so difficult.

Today's walk will be from the bus stop to the youth team pitch at Gawthorpe and back again.

For a gentle stroll I like West Bradford to Clitheroe along the Ribble.
For a more energetic walk Wasdale Head up to Scafell Pike.
For a mental scramble you can't beat the Crib Goch route up Snowdon but it's not for the faint hearted.

Nice thread. I really enjoyed reading all those beautiful place names, places that, sadly, I'll never see.
