My parents saw the Red Arrows flying over (not in formation) yesterday, presumably in their way there.

Red Arrows were at Blackpool airport. Not sure about the other aircraft. The Lancasters due I've Blackpool at 14:45.
There a few appearances booked on Sunday so it may park in Blackpool overnight.

Thinking of taking the kids over but don’t fancy the traffic. Any other places to be able to see them well enough that don’t involve being stuck in traffic for 3 hours to travel 30 miles ?

It’s at Withernsea tomorrow also. Might fly our way to get there. Will be checking Flightradar to see its route.

A good place, especially for the kids, is Morrison's carpark on Squires Gate lane. There's a path between the store and the airfield perimeter fence only a few yards from the carpark. Haven't been for a few years but assume there's still no problem using it.
You can see a lot of the displays being performed over the sea, obviously not overhead, but quite a lot of the display aircraft, including the Red Arrows are parked directly in front of you and taxi in and out within a few yards of the fence.
The Arrows are based there from Friday 'til after their display on Sunday and the pre and post display of the ground crew action is brill to watch.
If you fancy giving it a go, suggest you get there early as the path does get busy
Managed to dig up a couple of piccies from a few years ago.
Have a nice day.

Highly advise anyone going to the Air Show to serve the train!

Just been on it from Leeds and it was absolutely packed. Most people trying to get on the train could not get on between Burnley and Preston.

Yeah, the guy at Burnley Manchester Road in the Burnley polo shirt made himself look a right tool when he was being abusive to the train guard because there was not enough space. Literally nothing he could have done and he isn't in charge of selecting how many carriages to run.

That being said, only 3 carriages going to Blackpool on air show weekend is yet further incompetence by Northern Rail management.

If Northern Rail had have got their way there wouldn't even be any guard on the train - I wonder how that would have panned out.

Survival of the fittest.
