He is going to score quite a few this season if he keeps doing those runs

. Have we finally got a manager playing to his strengths?

Jungle drums are saying he fancies his last big contract to be in the Sunshine Vegas.
Shame if that's right, but understandable , but he's earnt it. He's been a good servant.

Aye.
Puts his back into it, and is turning out to be a
good leader.
And obv, good player too. Hope the rumours that he's
being watched are crap.

Two excellent finishes too. I thought Kompany found a good role for him behind the striker, using his legs and energy to press, I’m surprised Kompany abandoned that entirely last season.

The change after half-time when Brownhill was moved forward into a number 10 role completely changed the game together with the early pressing at the start of the second half. A lot more movement generally so far under the new manager with players taking defenders away and leaving space for runs from Brownhill et al.

IF Berge stays SP has a problem fitting all 3 of our main MFers in. This current system is working.

His Championship wages will be far greater than greater than he can get in the states, I'm sure he could do another 3 seasons minimum here before cashing out to Vegas

His ability to find space in the attacking area has led to two fantastic runs and goals. This is something new in his game and maybe down to astute coaching

When he was used in that ten spot two years ago he started the season like he'd get quite a few goals but as Barnes began to drop in a little deeper he was sat back in or pushed right to allow the wingers to become the furthest players forward.
Personally I think his ability to win the ball back and provide the high energy from further up the field is very underrated.
If Parker uses him like this all season he'll get 10-15 goals at this level.

Brownhill and Berge would be fantastic in the jay rod role yesterday, especially Berge. If you go back to the foster disallowed goal away at Forest, that came from Berge breaking down the right

I don’t think Brownhill is quite good enough to play central midfield in the PL, based on what we’ve seen under 3 managers. However I do think there was a role for him further advanced under Kompany.

Had we of played Cullen brownhill Berge as a 3 more often last season we would have been nowhere near as open but instead kompany moved Odobert from the left to play central

We created much more space in our first two games this season than we have for a long time, although going ahead in under 10 minutes certainly helps to create space naturally as our opponents try to get back into the game.
If we can keep our team continuing to make runs, giving the man with the ball good options, we'll be OK. We certainly have the personnel and depth of squad to maintain this style. Rotation and measuring individual 'levels' successfully, will be key and I think Mr Parker will be all over that.

His brother said he was injured before the season so he obviously wasn’t fit to start the first game. He was subbed in for two minutes against City on the opening night.

It's not a new thing. He's always been quick for a central midfielder, certainly at this level, and he's always made intelligent runs.
It got neutralised under Dyche because he played with2 holding midfielders who were instructed to stay goal side of the ball. Two years ago he started the season making lots of those runs but as we increasingly encountered teams who left no space behind there was inevitably less scope for him to showcase it.
One of last season's great mysteries was why he wasn't used in that "pressing 10" role that might have played to those strengths - particularly during the various periods that we tried to fit Amdouni and Odobert into the team.

Agree how good Berge was at Florist but would he be happy playing a season wide right?
The current system is 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-2-1-1. It would be a major change to play all 3.

He wouldn’t be playing wide right, Vitinho would be there, it’s the Odobert 10 position

Think he is a good professional and whole hearted. I really like watching him and would love him to sign an extension and finish his career here. Both finishes this season have been very tidy, we've had strikers in the past that have fluffed those.

I think we activated the 1 year extension in his deal last year. So he will be out of contract next summer as it stands.
Personally I am hoping he is offered and signs an extension.

If we go up it would be a no brainer to sign on again.
I wondered if he was more prolific in his role at Bristol City, but his stats are constant throughout his career, 1 goal/9games. Like a lot of others they seem to come in purple patches rather than consistently.

If he doesn't sign and we get promoted, he's still likely to move for a big signing on fee somewhere else.

Seems like he's been here much longer than four years. Always seems to give 100%. We've certainly got our moneys worth with him.
I wouldn't hold it against him if he was to wait for his contract to end to leave. Probably the prime age and stage of his career to get a big money move.

It wasn’t that lonely I believe a large portion would have been saying the same, there was however a growing minority who disagreed.
At this level he is fantastic but in the Prem we can all see his limitations, personally I don’t think we have ever given him the platform in the prem to express himself properly. he has tended to be used in a more withdrawn role which he can do, but doesn’t really suit him at that level.

I wish fans wouldn't judge the players on last seasons performances. After watching MTB2, I lay all that blame on the manager. It doesn't matter what walk of life you are in, nobody performs their best unless they are happy. They must have been dreading going into training on a Monday.

I agree with this 100%. There were players that I had a poor opinion of last season, but having seen glimpses of the horrible environment they were working within, I was definitely too quick to judge them as individuals. Nobody can show their best when it’s so toxic and repetitive.
