I'm on holiday in Cornwall and I'm looking to sample a pasty as often as possible. Three down so far.
As I know many of you will have been here, and some of you are lucky enough to live here. Which bakery makes the best pasty?

The widely regarded ‘best pasty’ is found at Gear Farm Pasty Co. I was in Cornwall in May and made a jaunt to sample it - it didn’t let us down. Middle of nowhere, of course, but worth the trip. Be aware they only make I think 250 a day and they sell out. Check opening time.

Being based in Cornwall I can state with much experience:
Gear Farm
Ann's Pasties
Philps, Hayle
Butchers Bakehouse, Porthleven (if they have any)

If you visit Truro then there is a bakery called Greggs that you should try. They have them up in Leeds and their Stake Bakes are on another planet.

I have a serious cornish pastie habit so during our years abroad we had a boat-rule that said if we saw anything which looked like a pasty, we bought one... I ate some seriously weird stuff over the years

Each to their own but I find you get can really tell the difference when you stick one of the Stake varieties into your belly.

Had a Cornish pasty in Cornwall a few years back and think they are the most overated food thing ever. The filling is boring and the pastry and oversized crust even boreinger.
Mind you, I like spicy food so no surprise I find them bland, each to their own.

Depending on where you are, there’s a tiny village called Gorran Haven, about 10 mins drive from St Austell. Within the village, about 100 yards from the beach is a place called Cakebreads. In typical cottage-business style they’re the village newsagents/Post Office/bakery/pub/cafe.

Their pasties have been a staple of my frequent holidays to the village for years and are, although I’m obviously biased, the best I’ve ever had. The beach is well worth a visit too.

Partial to a beef and blue cheese. Gravy essential.

But that isn't a Cornish Pasty - which is a globally recognised brand name for a specific set of ingredients, cooked in a certain way!

Might as well call a Samosa a Cornish pasty at this rate!

was in Cornwall last week and had 3, all were good but none great. Will make a note to research before going next time.

However did find the cider good everywhere

To get the best pasty you’ll need to date a Cornish girl who’s nan makes them., failing that the smaller independents ( some mentioned above are the best) and never NEVER have a gingsters

Best I ever had was at Pengenna Pasties, Tintagel... served in their rear "pasty garden" after a fabulous cliff-top walk from Boscastle.
Seagulls loved 'em too - so much so that the waiter was beating them away with a cricket bat!

I was there! Discovered it 5 or so years ago by chance, and had to go back. Bag each of peach and mango cider brought home.

Peach cider has a great image on the front

We get the Philps ones delivered to us up here (in bulk) In Porthleven you need to get there early as they can only make so many in the small bakery they have there. Magic.

They may well have one in Leeds, but a Petrol Station/ Shop of all places, near us in Rossendale sells a great Pastie. Think it's called Ginsters.

A lot of places are just capitalising on the brand, there's better pies and pasties in Burnley than some of them. Find a good un and you're on to a winner tho

Best I've had was a few years ago in Newquay small independent baker just off the main street. Love the history about them and the tin mines.

Yeah, it says something that in a town full of pasty shops, it's the only one where you nearly always have to queue up. They are gorgeous, and even the pastry is scrumptious.

Rowe's Bakery Truro are the best in my experience and they have shops in over 20 towns in Cornwall and Devon and in Tesco and Sainsbury's,they also do pasties by post.

Doesn't have to be made in Cornwall, in my opinion at least, but the ingredients, preparation and cooking recipe must be following for it to be identified as a Cornish Pasty by the World Heritage thingy.

Having said that I like almost all of the variations I've tried! But not the Stilton one you mentioned sadly.

It's my local, literally 5min drive away

Best pasty I had down there was in Devon. I think it was actually sold as a 'Devon Pasty'. Some big chunks of meat in that boy.

Large with a crimped top, the meat goes in uncooked and steams inside the pastry.

The best one for me so far was from Niles at Fowey. My girlfriend preferred a pasty at Crooklets, Bude, supplied by Malcolm Barnecotts.
We had some yesterday in Polperro from Taste buds, the filling was OK but they use a short crust pastry. I prefer flaky.
The quest goes on.

From someone whose lived down here a while now the best tend to be from the smaller bakeries and most are down West.

After sampling as many as possible, my top 3 are
St Ives bakery
Niles
Malcolm Barnecutts
Closely followed by Cornish bakery.
I tried to get one at Sarah's in Looe but they had sold out when I got there.
St Ives is one of my favourite places in the world but I tried not to let that cloud my judgement. The pasty was just excellent.

Off down there again and am excited to find on Google, that Philps have a shop in the village we are staying in.
