Good fee and seems sensible for both parties but sad to see him go. That cross to Barnes against Rovers will live long in the memory.

Sorry to see this lad go ... but had not really been the same after the World Cup and was getting pelters from quite a few on here ... not given a chance last season by Kompany ...

He wasn't the same player we sent to the World Cup, I'm 100% convinced they swapped him for a lookalike

That is so much better than any we have done. Much cleverer. Very impressed.
I would definitely sign for them now after seeing that. ;-)

Strange one with Zaroury, he looked one of the best players in the league the first half of the season, but was then below par when he came back after the World Cup, discarded after promotion and did nothing much at Hull. Be interesting to see if he can find his form again - certainly still young enough

Very sad, but hardly surprising. I hope he rips it up in Lens, will be following their games with interest.

Very sad day, something went seriously long last season as Anass was another to be sidelined by VK after some brilliant performances in the Championship.

Disappointing. He and Al-Dakhil are the two squad players I’d have kept because I don’t think they’ve realised their potential and the rumours of replacements and likely fees aren’t brilliant.

Another Burnley career seriously harmed by the previous manager.

Disappointed too - during his purple patch he was a joy to watch. Very rarely have we had a player that carried the ball so well, almost glided across the field with the ball. Thought I read the fee was around half of that quoted, really poor if true. Good luck to him anyway.

Typo "for" not "four" in last sentence ;-) Very good article though.

Had a cracking first 6 months with us and then never seemed the same post World Cup. Don't think he set the world on fire at Hull last soon, so getting a fee for him is great business.

Thanks for your contribution Annas, all the best.

If it was just VK, why didn't he light up at Hull when given the opportunity?

I'm not doubting his early contributions for us, and I am sad in some ways that we couldn't get the best out of him consistently, but maybe there was something (in him) that just couldn't get going?

I remember thinking I liked the look of him in that cameo at Preston but next time out at Cardiff he looked as though he'd never played football before. But then came Sunderland and that second half when he was virtually unplayable,

As others have said, he wasn't the same after the World Cup but on form he was such an exciting player.

Peanuts really have we even made a profit?! Still a great talent looked good against Luton would of stuck with him at the price.

We signed him for a reported €4 million with Charleroi having a 20% sell on clause. If the €9 million is accurate then Charleroi will receive €1 million leaving us with a profit in terms of transfer fees of €4 million.

Were some idiots on here saying he was ill so that's why he wasn't in the squad v Cardiff. Not that ill, that he couldn't fly to France and sort out a lucrative new contract. I love all these, i know what is happening Burnley fans when they really don't have a clue.

Would have been gutted around December 2022. But for whatever reason, he's never got back to those heights, hopefully he gets back on form at Lens. Decent fee too.

Before you start posting this nonsense, I can confirm that Anass Zaroury and James Trafford were both ill last week, Scott Parker said so and he was telling the truth.

Sad to see him go and he certainly leaves with the very best wishes.

Real shame he never got a real chance in the PL as on his day in the Champ he was unplayable. Real star potential there and hope the lad can find consistency in his game.

All the best Anass and thanks for the memories.

VK had him in the squad for the start of last season, this despite a visible drop in standards after the World Cup.

Didn't he score with his first touch after he came back from the World Cup vs Birmingham? Apart from that I can’t remember much of note from him in the second half of the season.

He did. He had his moments after that but nothing like the consistent form he’d shown before the World Cup.

Last season he didn’t get a chance. Yes, sent off when he came on as a sub v Man City but just one start in the Premier League at Bournemouth when admittedly he had a poor game. We will never know now whether he’d have grown into a Premier League player.

A real shame, a player who played so well for us in the Championship he went to the World Cup and who a lot of us hoped would be reintegrated after the nonsense of last season.

Amazes me the way people now talk about players from VK's Championship winning team. Zaroury as good as written off, people claiming Benson barely played and Cork's legs had gone. Madness if you ask me.

VK signed 36 players in his four transfer windows. Admittedly a number were on loan but only 20 of them left now and I suspect more of them to go in the next eight days.

He was also excellent away at Norwich, Bournemouth in the cup and decent in home games against Huddersfield, Preston and Wigan all after his return from the WC.

Understandable though. Some because they get a higher standard of football (and wage}, and there must be some that SP doesn't want.

AZ got sent off in a typical “Man City” way where players are clearly told to bring down a player who breaks the lines or goes passed players in the middle of the park as Walker did that night.
Hardly a surprise VK also tried to adopt this approach - though last season for a lot of the games our midfield couldn’t even manage to stop the opposition by fouling them.

Probably a sweeping statement but many of the lads we signed appear fairly quiet, some quite religious and sensible (to a distant observer anyway).

I contrast this to the f-ing and blinding management style of VK, quite an aggressive style of management, add on a few layers of a new culture, a new country, a tough EFL league, a tough world cup squad (in Anass’s case) and then the toughest league in the world, and I do wonder if some of these lads simply couldn’t cope with it, and their football suffered?

I put that down to Vincent, that was his job, but on the flip side we have made a profit on them so it wasn’t all disaster. But it certainly wasn’t good enough, given our relegation, and as a manager he proved he wasn't good enough either.

Sadly when the squad needs to be significantly reduced, and that process is now in hand, then unfortunately it has to include the likes of Twine, Zarourry, Al Dakhill, McNally, and maybe Benson too. In an ideal world you start with the players who are the least likely to contribute to our club in this coming season and work upwards on the list. Sadly it does not work that way, which means we still have Obefemi, Wout, Dodgson, Egan Riley and several others than need to be gone shortly, so that any incomings can be brought in. I suspect with some of these, loans will be the only option
