Re: Jack Clarke
They might be saying something similar with the sale of Zaroury after what he did to them last time we were there.

Clarke is one of their top players, Zaroury couldn't even get in our starting 11 this seasonCirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 11:55 pmThey might be saying something similar with the sale of Zaroury after what he did to them last time we were there.

Great news for us ahead of Saturday. This is similar to us losing Odebert for them. One of their main threats seemingly unavailable.

Weren't we reportedly interested in him couple of years back?
Good player.
If he goes, they'll miss him.

How many players are Ipswich signing? Getting Borja from Chelsea too, seems a common mistake...

All their signings so far look like obvious improvements to what they had. That’s key, I think. Bringing in a load of players who aren’t necessarily better than what you already have and cramming them into the team is most certainly a mistake.![]()

You would think that Ipswich will struggle massively this season. Largely moved away from their squad that won them back-to-back promotions, and with it will have probably ruined the team spirit that would’ve given them a fighting chance.

squad, simply not good enough for the PL, the step up is just too great. (As we found)
At least they're giving it a go and spending to get quality in that'll at least give them a
fighting chance of staying up.
Be a real test for them, but their manager might just drag them over the line.
(If he doesn't depart for pastures new.)

Jack Clarke - struggled in the PL
Szmodics - never played in the PL
Broja - not got going at any club
Greaves - never played in the PL
Muric - prone to an error or two
Delap - not even prolific in the championship
Johnson - third choice at West Ham
Phillips - has a point to prove but poor last season for West Ham
I just don’t see enough quality in their squad to stay up. They will work hard and pick up the odd result, but I can’t see them staying up at all.

In his whole career he made a grant total of 0 appearances in the Prem, at least we normally give our players 1 game before some write them off

Zero after moving from Leeds to Spurs, he made no appearances for them in the PL.
That tells me he struggled.

My point was they'd have been slaughtered every week with their original squad.
The gap clubs like ourselves and Ipswich have to bridge is colossal now.

Re: Jack Clarke
All of these players have played in England which couldn't be said about many of our purchases last year. And most of them have had Premier League experience. Within a promoted club's budget, this seems a pretty good effort. I hop it works out for them.wadeswondergoal wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 7:43 amI’m not entirely sure that the players they are bringing in have the required ability collectively to keep them up.

Clarke is the biggest possible loss they could have, in this window. Star man.
They will be gutted. Our advantage.

Only think I'd say about Clarke is that I watched him in the FA cup against Newcastle, and he looked bang average. Put me off us signing him after that.
Re: Jack Clarke
Been reading their forum this week. They were buzzing for this game, but it’s noticeably flatter with the departure of Clarke.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 9:38 amResult for us this - fans and team on a downer after their talisman departs the day before. Lovely stuff.

Their new striker from Zenit is likely to be waiting for international clearance, too.

Agree with this, it’s not so much the loss of a good player but the impact on the dressing rooms and fans.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 9:38 amResult for us this - fans and team on a downer after their talisman departs the day before. Lovely stuff.

Last time we played against him we contained him very well but I suspect he might’ve done more damage with us no longer controlling possession.
Anyway, big advantage going in to the game. Hopefully get an early goal.
Re: Jack Clarke
All I can remember about Jack Clarke is that Trippier was having an absolutely torrid run of form in January and he still masterfully gaffered him in the FA cup.
Allied with Spurs more than happy to let him go, him getting picked up by Sunderland rather than anyone else, and I'm still not convinced he's got the minerals to make it at that level.

Re: Jack Clarke
There must be some reason that one of the established Premier teams hasn't tried to sign him. Palace are usually the ones that go for young players from the Championship. His party trick, similar to Benson, will be stopped a lot more in the Premier.
